If there are any more posts joking about PSU situation

According to the thinking being used by some on this board, all of the criticism directed towards the U of I by Cyclone fans over the Pierre Pierce incidents were completey warranted and valid.

I'm not going to get dragging into an argument over this stupid ****. If you want to joke about this crap, go somewhere else. This situation is horrifying, and the only thing I'm interesting in discussing is the punishment that is going to be handed out to those involved in this thing. I pray that it is so severe, that no one will ever attempt to cover up anything like this again. As far as I'm concerned, Penn St should be banned from competition in ALL sports for a minimum of two years.

I agree!

It is to bad the Big Ten would not step up and kick them. This is an embarrassment to the conference to even be associated with such a school.

Totally agree joe pa needs to go down and the grad student but this would be punishing the innocent such as the players who had nothing to do with this.

Ok just to get everyones mind out of the gutter here is a change of subject joke that everyone can appreciate.

A Priest and a Rabbi walk into a bar, sit down and order.

The priest orders a water and the rabbi orders a whiskey sour.

When the check comes the priest's prayers have been answered and the water has been turned into a nice bordeaux, so the barkeep hands the check to the Rabbi,

the rabbi looks over the bill and sees that the priest's wine is not accounted for, so he calls over the bartender and asks why his friend has not been charged for the wine,

the bartender says "jesus christ cant you guys just split the check no one gives a crap about your old myths anymore."

i have kids....pedophiles are a disguting fact of the world we live in...joking about the victims i would agree Jon is out of bounds.....making Psu off limits to ridicule is unfounded..They have earned the disrespect of every parent in America......They will be referred to as pedo university everytime smack talk gets heated with thier fans...just as pierre pierce still comes up today....
a kid told a halloween joke..3 hawkeyes in a car....whose driving? answer the cops...
probably not funny to Ferentz..but probably earned...probably wouldnt tell it to kirk the day after an arrest
Humor is how people deal with difficult situations....all the "jokes" i have seen have been directed at the university..pummeling this university with embarrassing "jokes" is the least of what should happen to them....i havent seen any "jokes" aimed at the victims.....its your site..but psu deserves every bit of the embarassment..

This is a situation when the NCAA needs to make sure nothing like this happens again. Penn St athletic department officials knowingly covered up an extremely heinous criminal act. The punishment must be severe enough that NO ONE would ever think about trying to cover up something like this ever again.

In my opinion, a minimum one year ban from competition in all sports, a 20% reduction in scholarships in all sports, and a two year ban from postseason play in all sports would be an appropriate punishment. I would add to that an additional two years of scholarship reductions, and two additional years of postseason banishment for the football program on top of the previously mentioned punitive measures. Plus tack on 10 years of probation for the school.

This is an extremely harsh punishment, and I know the NCAA would never have the guts to do it, but in my opinion this punishment fits the crime, and would certainly deter any other athletic department from ever covering up a crime like this ever again.

There is a big difference between bringing up Iowa's history with legal issues and athletes, and cracking wise about this.

I'm for no more posting at all on the PSU scandal on this forum to be honest. I don't want to come across as insensitive, because I like everyone feel terrible for the victims and the Penn St. community. But I'd prefer the "Hawkeye Football" forum to go back to "Hawkeye Football" exclusively. I'm just so disgusted by all of it that I really don't want to read or hear about it anymore. Obviously, Sandusky should be SEVERELY punished for his crimes as well as anybody who didn't alert authorities and/or tried to cover up these acts should be punished to the fullest extent as well. And hopefully the healing process for the victims and the PSU community can begin sooner than later.

You don't have to read the topics about this. It's a major story, not just in sports but in national news, to have a ban on posting about it just because it makes people uncomfortable is unreasonable.

I don't think it's fair to punish the students for something they had zero part in. I'd like some sort of reprimand against the administration without punishing the current and future students who had absolutely nothing to do with this. If that's possible in any way.

I know that, and I have stayed away from most of the conversations. I know it won't change anything and it's more my own problem, but I come to the football forum more than any forum on this site and I'd prefer to read Hawkeye headlines when I do. Seeing even the thread titles is a reminder and I'm tired of having to think about the disgusting things with this situation. It's not that I don't care and I'm certainly not trying to be insensitive about it, I just don't like being reminded of it. The first six topics on this forum as of right now are related to the PSU stuff. I know it's a personal gripe and the majority of posters on this site are for discussing it, so I'll probably stay away from HN more often or visit the other forums more often. ;)

Many people I know, myself included, deal with uncomfortable situations by cracking jokes or trying to laugh off the situation. I think this is most of what we are seeing, I haven't seen a single comment where someone is making light of the pain and horrible things these victims went through. I have a feeling many other posters are feeling the same way I am, sick to my stomach and yet like a train wreck, I just can't turn my head away from it.

I feel bad for Penn State fans in a way, from their boards it looks like the overwhelming majority think Paterno and everyone needs to get thrown out on their *****. That being said, they have puffed out their chests for years and built up a facade of being this squeaky clean program, when behind closed doors things were not what they seemed. And there will be tons of other stuff not related to this that will come out too, look for Deadspin or some other site to come up with an expose shortly (Deadspin is already asking anyone who knows of things in the past within the athletic department that got covered up to contact them).

JD isn't banning discussion of the sandusky story, he's just banning posters who joke about it.
