Who are some of the highest rated players to actually play for the Hawks? Also wondering if anyone knows the rankings of some of these past players that became Hawks. I don't know if they had this type of ranking system back in the early 80's, but if someone knows, it would be interesting.
- G. Stokes
-M. Payne
-K. Gamble
-BJ. Armstrong
-S. Carfino
-R. Davis
-A. Woolridge
-K. Murray

Al Lorenzen, The Vanilla Gorilla was # 4 Parade all-American. That's pretty lofty because at the time, Parade magazine was pretty much the big ranking system.

Hard to judge the rankings of recruits back in the 80's. McDonalds All Americans has always been a good gage of the top recruits.

Here are the ones that went to Iowa:

1981 - Michael Payne
1982 - Brad Lohaus
1984 - Al Lorenzen
1985 - Roy Marble & Ed Horton
1988 - Ray Thompson
1992 - Kenyon Murray
1993 - Chris Kingsbury
1995 - Sam Okey (transfer)
1997 - Luke Recker (transer)

I actually do not remember BJ Armstrong being ranked all that high coming in and didn't Woolridge transfer in from Nebraska?

Matt Gatens 4 star SG #13 at position
Greg Brunner 4 starSF #15 at position
Jeff Horner 4 star PG # 18ish at position

Since Ricky Davis I do not remember a top 50 player coming in though.

Very Cool
