Persa not healthy

Um, sure. A team that beat a conference favorite in Iowa and almost beat MSU and PSU and then lost its starting QB that has a lot of guys returning is likely to be a contender this year. That's the way the Big Ten works. Teams with veteran QBs and a lot of supporting cast members returning that play close, competitive games in one year are generally pretty competitive the following year. It's a pretty regular trend in the B10. Look at Iowa from 2008 to 2009 and Wisconsin from 2009 to 2010. With a healthy Persa and all the returning starters, that squad is better than the 2010 team playing against diluted talent given last year's huge senior classes throughout the conference. You ain't gotta get mad just because Fitz would prolly have had that team in the B10 title hunt come November. Kurt will have us back to that level sometime.

Fitz is Dan McCarney, Jr...except with bigger teeth. He will probably have NASA working on a fix for Persa's achilles just so he can play against Iowa on Ocober 15th. The Iowa game is the only bowl game NW will ever win...

Iowa's inability to score points and not turn the ball over against Northwestern has been the reason we keep losing to them. Not because of what their offense supposedly does to our defense every year.

Exactly. They know our three offensive alignments and the four plays we run out of them. They also know the sequence in which we run them. Hard to be successful on offense when it is your four guys against their 8 at the point of attack.

Maybe it will happen the same year that NW wins a bowl game. I hope we don't have to wait another 60 years. That would suck.

Fitz can't be counted as a great coach until he wins a bowl game. How many tries now? Must be frustrating for such a GREAT coach. Bowl games are when game planning shows up...guess he can't game plan other than having Persa run for his life and making great play after great play. Wow, he's brilliant.
 


Teddy Greenstein (a great reporter) is reporting in the Chicago Tribune today that Persa is still hobbling on his achilles and really can't run on it. I find it extremely hard to believe that he will be 100% at any time this year. Bad news for the purple snobs but good news for the Hawks!
