Iowa/NFL players

First off, let me say that I like coach Ferentz and think other than coach Fry, he may be the best thing to happen to Iowa football, possibly ever.

That said, with all the NFL players we have had over the past couple of years, why haven't we won an outright big ten championship or even a national championship? Is it bad game coaching? Players getting better after they leave Iowa? Poor offensive scheme/Defensive scheme? We have won a lot of games, something like, 60 since 2004 and that's good, but we don't seem to be an elite program that wins championships or really even competes for them.

What is the problem?

I think it starts with the skill position players. We still do not get the elite QB's, RB's or Wide outs, players that can just outclass the competition and bury other teams. I wonder what others think.

Go Hawks!!

My seriously unprofessional opinion is that you have many excellent players, but they all come from relatively few positions, namely O and D lines, linebacker, and tight end. You have very little success developing skill players, and that makes it difficult to compete for championships.

Iowa has 6 or 7 D backs in the league too, more than LB btw, defense overall is usually good.

We seem to have allot of trouble keeping running backs around, whether due to grades, health, or what ever. It seems we have a whole new set of backs every year, that has not helped.

We do have two big ten championships over the last decade, which is a many as anyone else other than OSU.

They don't have Albert Young in that list...maybe he hasnt signed with a team yet though...also, did Ladell Betts retire?

I wonder what the average number of years in the NFL are for Iowa players. I'll bet it is much higher than other schools that crank out more of the skill position players.

KF is a great coach and we will continue to turn out NFL talent, and Iowa will continue being a top program in the Big Ten I see another Big Ten run in the next few years.

I think that it's just a matter of it being almost impossible to win a NC. Typically, only the real powerhouse programs win them, but even then, look at OSU, their last one was almost 10 years ago. I think things have to really go your way, and you have to be a bit lucky to win it all. It's also hard to have really solid depth at each position like the OUs and Bamas have. To demonstrate how hard it is to win a NC here, look at our coaching staff in the 80s. How did we not win 1 with that group? I just think it's that hard if you aren't one of the bluebloods. But I do think we have the right coach to possibly get us there
