Coker: 37th-likeliest to win Heisman

I don't see how they can give D-Rob odds that are that good. Michigan is not going to be great this year, and no player has ever won the Heisman that played for a team that finished with more than 3 losses.

It surprised me, too, but everyone is obsessed with the guy, so I suppose it's not all that shocking.

Notre Dame was 2-8 when Paul Hornung won the Heisman. Different era, clearly, but still more than 3 losses.

Well, Paul Hornung won it in 1956 and Notre Dame was 2-8. However, your point still stands. Gotta love a 2-8 team described as mediocre! :)

The blond, 220-pound Golden Boy, despite a mediocre Notre Dame team, carried the ball 94 times his senior year for 420 yards for an average of 4.5 yards per try. He completed 59 of 111 passes for gave him a total offensive figure of 1,337 yards. The jack-of-all- trades could run, pass, and block and tackle. He was probably the greatest all-around player in Notre Dame's history and is the only Heisman winner to have played on a losing team as the Irish were 2-8 in '56.

I guess I should have clarified lol. In the modern era, I'm pretty sure it's not happened. Hornung also kicked for the Irish, didn't he? He literally did it all, which is a good reason for him to be the exception.

I thinked he filled the water bottles too! :) It's all good.

Cokers, legacy will be McCall. I know he is a young man but he knows this. He will raise the bar, very high for McCall, but in the end, it's what he does now that shapes McCall. You cant ask for much more than that can you? Coker has the chance to go above and beyond Greene. So now is his legacy time. Truely a beautiful thing, to watch unfold. It should be a masterpiece to watch. How many SO's are "the back" at Iowa? He is the real deal and I have a feeling he is about to show it.

The only thing as sure as an annual loss to Northwestern is the annual curse of the Iowa running back. Grades, injuries, Wegher and weed have derailed many a career.

I hear ya. I answer with I never said he should be below 50+ in odds. He is good and will be at his best his jr year (next year). He will almost be unstoppable and not to mention Vandy will be a SR. But I digress, this year is still, this year. So lets see who leaves and who stays and leave next year where it is.
I think Coker will set the bar high for McCall, that is the point (and should be Cokers goal). Some leadership, some continuity. He is not dumb and is very talented. I hope. Even that I know, he does not take these classes, someday he (or another of our past RB's) is the RB coach at Iowa. He has a real shot at Greene, and that right there says alot! Like I said, his legacy At IOWA is McCall.
