Stanzi is overrated, but still better than Tate was.
From a career standpoint, you are talking about numbers 3 and 4 in Iowa history. tough to call someone overrated when they are in that conversation.

Those are good numbers.
I had some wrong so I deleted the post here are the numbers of junior and senior years:
Long: 6168 yards, 49 TD's, 29 INT's
Tate: 5451 yards, 40 TD's, 20 INT's
Hartlieb: 6165 yards, 33 TD's, 17 INT's
Stanzi: 5421 yards, 42 TD's, 21 INT's
Agreed. How many 2 star recruits accomplish what he did? From a career standpoint, you are talking about numbers 3 and 4 in Iowa history. tough to call someone overrated when they are in that conversation.
Rick was Jeckyl and Hyde as a closer. Late in his SO year and his JR year he was money. His SR he looked like a deer in headlights. He won his bowl games, which is a plus. He didn't win a B10 championship; that's a minus. I value championships over stats and regular season performance. I'm also more of a Tom Brady fan than Manning. I like Rick, but he's never been 1st or 2nd team all conference or won a conference title. Top 3 in the last 30 years is ambitious. I'll see your top 1/2 dozen, but that's it.

If Stanzi doesn't get injured in 2009 - there is a real possibility Iowa plays for the national title that season.
Much better chance that a junior with an undefeated hand outplays a red-shirt freshman with almost zero game experience. Iowa was leading NW when he went down. I doubt Iowa goes backwards with a leader that his teammates could rally around. There is also a real chance Iowa still goes 0-2. It's OSU and Northwestern after all.

You can argue OSU since that is more of an unknown. But arguing against Stanzi's (Iowa's) 2009 magic seems an attempt to view that season thru the prism of a glass half empty - which certainly isn't an accurate way to view what Iowa was accomplishing with Ricky at the helm that season.
He had one of the best touchdown to INT ratios in school history during his senior year, and also set the school record for passing efficiency in a single season.
I'll take a few more deers like that, thanks.
Jon I expected the other poster not to read the post he is quoting and disagreeing with but am surprised that you would do the same.
Ronco was talking about him as a closer...as in 4th q...as in game winning drives....as in deer in a headlights as a senior. Not the entire game.
