Big Ten Quarterbacks Article

Nice. We need JVB to be solid this year. He doesn't have to be great. Our OL and RBs will be able to carry their part of the O for sure. JVB and group just have to keep Ds honest and not let them drop 9/10 in the box.
I'm not as sold on JVB yet as some are but I think he is a good kid and leader and will be ok this year and really good in 2012.

I think with the OL that should be solid this season and healthy running game JVB can have a great first season for Iowa, but we will see as good as he played at OSU he played equally as poor against NW and Minnesota so jury still out.

I honestly think JVB has a much greater upside than Stanzi. I think he will be more accurate and allow us to move the chains more consistently in 3rd and manageable situations. This is major key to the Iowa program. Move the chains, manage the clock, and wear down defenses physically so we own the fourth quarter. I'm sorry to the Stanzi lovers, but he was not good on 3rd down in the latter half of last year. We didn't move the chains with leads in the fourth quarter of many games that cost us big. Great QB's make the plays to win games or protect leads and we didn't do that last year.

We did in 2009 with Stanzi. Same offensive coordinator too, even though it pains me to say that.

I also think JVB's deep ball will be better and more accurate. There is something about this kid that screams intangible. Maybe it's the way he handled his first start at OSU, or the fact that he was so successful at the high school level. He expects to be great and often times kids like this just have the "it" factor. I can't wait to watch him have the offense for an entire game, or season. Should be fun to watch. I'm sure there will be growing pains early, but if he shows up against Pitt and Penn State...look out. This year could be very special.

One last note...we may be able to do something that we haven't done in a long time, outscore GOOD teams. We won't be so dependent on our defense keeping opposing offenses to 15-17 points for us to win.

I could see us winning some 35-28 games this year as I think our D will struggle against some offenses. Hope I'm wrong there, but there is still some inexperience on D. I think this offense could put up some serious points this year.

I tend to agree, but this is also what concerns me. I see this as a year when coaching could cost us a lot of games. (It cost us at least one(Wisconsin) perhaps more last year)

As you pointed out, we'll need to ride the offense more than in past years. If KFz continues to be conservative on that side of the ball it'll hurt us. We can't be content to sit on the lead once we get up by 10. This team will need a killer instinct on offense to win 9-10 games. Otherwise wer're looking at 7-5 at best.

I think JV will be very good in 2011. Provided he isn't coached laterally, or worse, coached down... Regardless, I think he has the mechanicals, knowledge and skills to get the job done. He just needed the experience. He has that now.

The B1G will know JV very well in 2011.

I think you have the scratch the NW game for JVB. I don't think you can judge his performance in that game because of the lack of first team reps he got in practice. Obviously he had a great game against OSU. Can we judge him on that game? Yes. I expect him to have that type of game a lot next year. I think some people forget that JVB threw three pics in that game, some of them were tipped but the bottom line is JVB should be solid at worst next year. I bring up the three picks because he had a tremendous game and he still has room for improvement. I think his short accuracy is excellent all ready, he proved that in the OSU game. The big question I have is how will be be able to throw the long ball and the fade route. Stanzi was excellent at times at throwing the fade to McNutt. Also how can JVB avoid the rush. Iowa should have an up to par offensive line next year to say the least. How well does JVB know the offense? As a junior he should know it pretty well. With that being said can he recognize defenses enough to be able to make check downs and audibles? These are all questions that need to be answered but after watching the OSU film several times, JVB should have pretty high expectations heading into the 2011 season. Go Hawks!

obviously with out an editor it is hard to find every gramitical error. I guess he wants to be an editor when he grows up.
