"Hey, I'm harsh to most schools. It's what I do."
Well, there you have it. Don't flatter yourself Gregg, we don't care what you think but will defend our school/coach when they are being trashed by dbags like yourself.
Actually, the story he links to in his bio tells you all you need to know: "Since getting hooked on the sport after covering UFC 68 in person from Columbus, Ohio, in March, I've been in awe of the idea that two men walk into the octagon knowing full well that one of them could be carried out on a stretcher. "
Somebody should point out to him that doing this all the time doesn't make it responsible journalism. It just makes him arrogant and reckless.
Sports radio is based this everyday and you listen to it. You have a couple guys taking on different viewpoints and it creates controversy which increases fans listening to the show which sells to the sponsors. Colin Cowherd does this everyday. He's purposely controversial and spouts out defiant viewpoints. He even admits it. Just because its Iowa football related doesn't make it any different then any other day of the week with any media. Its all about controversy. It sells.
Just because it sells doesn't make it right. Or responsible. It does often make it wrong. And irresponsible.
I find it interesting that anyone who is critical of Iowa in this case is automatically labeled a hack, r whatever else you want to call them. However, if something like this were to happen to other schools, their coaches are irresponsible and people over here would call for someone to be fired.
And people on this site, not al, but many, act like the UI administration is a bunch of idiots who should stay out of this whole thing. Don't they have something better to do than to investigate this? And if the Board of Regents is involved, then it is only because that one guy that was/is on the Board has it in for Iowa.
Some of the stuff one reads on this site is just hilarious. In the first place writers should be critical. It holds people in authority accountable. In the second place, if the administration and the board of Regents didn't look into this situation they would be negligent in their oversight responsibilities.
While our coaches have their heads and their hearts in the right places and are really good at what they do, when something like this happens it is quite possible they missed something. Certainly that possibility has to be looked into, if for no other reason so it can be discounted and they can be cleared. Even if they did something unintentionally that might have helped this problem occur, that doesn't automatically mean someone should be fired.
People need to chill out and let this situation play out.
It's not unfair for the media to question these things. As a journalism major, I know that it's the media's job to do so. But some of the stuff that's been written (Doyel and Forde as examples) are not responsible pieces of journalism. Making over the top, sensationalist claims to generate hits is NOT the same as performing the duty of the media. Calling coaches "abusive" because they use "barbaric" workouts, without having anywhere close to all the fact yet, is reckless.
