I learned something about Nile Kinnick last night..

I don't know how Don Nelson cannot be part of this. Winningest coach in NBA history. Also a fine player during college and in the NBA.

What they went on to do is not taken into account. It's about what they did while at a Big Ten university.

They say don't take into consideration anything after college so none of his NBA coaching matters.

Nevermind Lucas was number 8. I'm not sure who the other one is, don't think it's Ford it seems like the criteria has been athlete while he was in the big ten. So I don't think Ford would be in the top 5. It's has to be someone clearly obvious that we are forgetting.

Ford was a pretty good football player at Michigan. 3 year letter winner, played center and linebacker on the 1932 and '33 NCG winning teams. Was a strong leader on the '34 team. Played in the All-Star game, and was offered a chance to play in the pros by the Lions and the Packers. Not sure if his accomplishments put him the top 5, but wouldn't be surprised if it happened.

Personally, I have a feeling that the person we're not thinking of may be a female student-athlete. Although, the most decorated female athlete in Big Ten history (Suzy Favor Hamilton), was only 19th.

I'm happy with a top 10, though I'm sure there will be plenty of arguments regarding some that end up ahead of him.
Duff, I am shocked that you didn't know that. There is a great book about Niles life by T. Lidd. It profiles his life at Iowa and his senior year. Lots of really good infomation that I didn't know. Might even bring a tear to your eye at some point.
