Former Hawkeye Robert Smith Officiates the BCS Championship Game

Great find! Thanks for posting. Loved Robert as a Hawkeye and am even more impressed with his work as a football and basketball official.

Also congrats to ex-Hawkeye Scott Helverson, also mentioned in the article. Hadn't realized he had made the jump to officiating, either.

In addition to Robert Smith, the replay official for the BCS Championship Game is a girls golf coach in the Quad Cities. Not sure of his name or the High School.

Nice for him I officiate college basketball and know how tough and competitive it is at that level of officiating.

Robert reffed a couple of my high school basketball games. I also had former Hawk Norm Granger as both a football and basketball official.

That is fantastic. Talk about representing the University and football program well.

And I did think the championship game was very well officiated. On the controversial play, there was no issue of forward progress, as the side replay shows Dyer continued moving forward as he rolled over the Oregon defender. My immediate thought was "great job by the crew in NOT blowing the whistle there".
