They confirmed Jake will NOT be visiting them this weekend with teammate Phillip Dorsett. I'm assuming with only one recruiting weekend left after this weekend that as long as Miami doesn't get a visit next week, we should be in the clear for Jake. Sounds like very good news!

Great news, always amazes me we can pull a kid ou of sunny Florida when one of the big three is interested.

At least people can't say, "The star ratings are correct, if he was a 4 star recruit one of the Big 3 would have offered.";)

But on a more serious note, it makes more sense for Dorsett to want to come to Iowa than Rudock to Miami.
Yet, all indications are that Rudock is the lone Aquinas prospect the staff is after. That's a HUGE compliment to Jake. And a reminder that (unlike Zook) Kirk Ferentz does not offer a kid just because a recruiting service places a bunch of stars next to his name.

Someone correct me, but I believe in the 1960's the state of Florida had just one FBS-level school. Now I believe they have 6, with 3 being added in the last 15 years. I think Miami reached their zenith years ago and will likely not be able to sustain that level of success in the future. Each year the state gets raided for its prep talent by dozens of other schools, and the local boyz are diluted among 6 schools instead of 3.

EDIT: Florida has 7 FBS-level schools, not 6.

Are you sure this is true. Maybe he had no interest in Iowa at all and if he did perhaps the coaches would be all over him. I have no idea, just saying.

From an intellectual level you are talking night and day between Jake and Dorsett. Jake is the most mature recruit I have seen and he has a life plan in place. He is extremely intellegent and comes from a solid family. Dorsett is a great kid too, but I can understand why he was swayed by Miami and committed fairly early. I know I have overhyped Jake on this board but I'm telling you, this kid is the real deal. Barring injury he will become one of the greatest we have had. He will be Dr. Rudock when he leaves Iowa.

I was not attempting to imply Dorsett wants to be a Hawkeye. As for the possibility the coaches "would be all over" him if he did, I have no idea.

Personally I would luv it if Rudock brought a team-mate or two with him. But I have no idea if the coaches feel that way. And I have no idea if any of his team-mates ever had any interest in becoming a Hawkeye.

I agree, I think the kid is a stud. I was responding to those saying that Iowa wasn't interested in Dorsett.

Like you said, it's tough to leave Miami for Iowa if you're from there. I was just saying if a 4 star quality reciever is interested in iowa the staff would probably listen. Not saying they would want him, but they'd take a look.

That point seems logical to me. I assume the staff got a look at Rudock's teammates when watching his prep tapes. I would enjoy knowing if the staff ever showed interest in any of his team-mates. There's so much to this recruiting business that none of us are privy to, it helps explain threads like THIS ONE.

Man, I hope you are right!

Rudocks highlight tape is the best HS highlight tape I have ever seen for a QB. Even bette than Chris Leak's video.

I believe Iowa's prostyle and the medical school is what got this kid. Miami can't compete on the medical school level and I think that is more important than any of us realize. Any of these recruits that I have heard talk in interviews or on youtube or something sound incredibly mature with good heads on their shoulders for High Schoolers and that makes me look forward to this recruiting class. This coming from a High School teacher.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Jake also grow up a good portion of his life in Pennsylvania? I don't think the pull to stay in the "home state" was all that much.

Miami has a very good medical school. I think what got Jake to Iowa was the fact that Iowa is such a low key family oriented school. Have you ever been to the U? I remember going to football games in the nineties and you almost had to have armed guards to get to your car if it was more than a block away. His dad is an attorney and I think he knows the history. His family felt at home in IC. When you throw in all of the other factors of a great football tradition of more than a century, the med school, and a great coaching staff, it was game over.

Miami has a good med school, but I posted in a different Rudock thread a week or two ago that Iowa's rates quite a bit higher as a research institution (like #22 compared to #57-ish for Miami).

I remember reading that post. My point is that they have a good Med School and even though it isn't as good as UofI, they have one. Just glad he is a Hawkeye. University of Miami and Coral Gables, at least in the area of the universtiy, is a pit.
