Nebby recruiting

Man, how are they getting all these 4 star recruits? They havent been relevant in quite some time and kids have short memories. I believe there's no reason Iowa can't recruit as well as Nebraska, we are an oceanside resort town compared to playing in Lincoln...

Man, I have no idea how they do it either. Lincoln is very unimpressive. Hopefully the further away they get from those NC's, the harder it will get. I know it won't happen, but I would love to see them become the new Minnesota before I die. Maybe the curse will be broken when TO retires.

Don't worry about how many stars their recruits have. Remember during the Bill Callahan era they consistently had top 5 recruiting classes. I really feel many of the services are slanted toward schools like that to make sure they sell more magazine and web subscriptions.

The Flying Pelini brothers are not strong developers of talent so it isn't as if all of these 4 and 5 star recruits will translate into wins.

In fact, the way the Flying Pelinis treat their kids, highly recruited players are more likely to rebel than buy in.

It is the game day that impresses the recruits. I am amazed at how recruits are constantly referring to the gameday atmosphere. I love gameday in Iowa City and would rather be there than anywhere else, but Lincoln really is not that bad overall either (Yes, it pains me to even say this...). I have been in the state five years and make a lot of work related trips to Lincoln and while I would not want to live there, there are selling points.

I do think that Iowa should push hard on any recruit that both schools are in on as we won our bowl game and the Huskers failed on all counts.

You have not been to Lincoln on a game day...
I have many many times....Kinnick is a much better environment. Part of the reason is they are the only show in town...the entire state eats drinks and sleeps with thoughts of the Big Red. Plus they can throw those national championship banners around.

And I'm sure they do wave those banners around, but the reality is the 17 year old recruit was 1, 2, and 4 years old when the last three of those banners were won. One of which required Mr. Davis to quit to get the sympathy vote.

Kinda like Indiana basketball: The kids today don't really remember when IU was relevant, even though the roof of Assembly Hall has the banners.

Strike one. Crapahan was a terrible recruiter, he didn't evaluate talent well.

Strike two. You must not know much about football. How about guys like Dennard, Prince, Hagg, Gomes, and Crick. All of these guys were lightly recruited (most 2 or 3 star recruits), yet have been stars. And don't forget about Suh, the guy went from being barely average as Soph. to the most dominant interior defensive lineman in the past 20 years of college football. The Pelinis are masters at developing talent.

In fact, the way the Flying Pelinis treat their kids, highly recruited players are more likely to rebel than buy in.
You're out. Kids LOVE to play for Bo. Flat out plain and simple. Just because he chewed Martinez out (rightfully so) once doesn't mean that kids don't want to play for him. There is alot more to him then what you see during the games, and the players know that he will have their backs.

LOL as opposed to what else does Iowa have? The Clowns? UNI? Drake? Man, keep grasping for straws.

Well, now that you mention it, Iowa has two FBS football teams. Nebby has 1.

Iowa has four Division I basketball programs. Nebby has 2.

And, unlike the typical Nebraskan, Iowans are a fan of one program year 'round. In other words, we don't abandon our schools to go root for another school when the sport changes ala Husker fans being Creighton fans during basketball season.

Now go away.

You wanna check who has more players in the NFL?? You play in a weak conference period...I have good friends who are BIG TIME Husker fans...and even they admit that playing in the B12 North gives them 2 or 3 games a year at least with no pressure. Nobody said the Pelini's can't develop talent...anybody can develop talent. Masters at developing talent...I don't think so...come back in 10 years and then you can toot their horn.

You and I both know that we can't say whether kids like to play for Bo or not. If their talent is so good then why do they lose the games they do? Their is a lot more to all coaches behind the scenes...how many other coaches do you see dropping F bombs, ripping his players, his coaches, the media???? He is embrassing on the sideline...he is a solid D coordinator that is not cut out to be a head coach. How is Bo developing offensive talent???? His offense is a joke! I assume that isn't his fault...the buck stops with Bo for everything that happens in his team. He doesn't know offense and continues to ignore it...coaching is more then preparing your defense to play. My take on the Pelini's is they are good defensive minds, they are not capable of doing all that it takes to be a head coach...it is not the way Bo is wired. He ignores his offense and keeps an O coordinator because his AD is making him...he is a west coast offense guy that Bo is making him run something else. Don't kid yourself TO runs the show in Lincoln not Bo. I suppose since his guys will run through a wall for him how do you spin the bowl debacle...Omaha papers said practices in Lincoln were a joke...practices in California were awful and there were hints of quitting by the team and coaches.

Great effort the Huskers gave this year in Ames and then there was a year ago with the CLOWNS minus the RB and QB came in to Lincoln and beat the Huskers and might Suh in Lincoln...your right we don't have anything in Iowa.

Wow, you're right. Iowa is like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, London, Rome, and Paris all wrapped up into one. WOW!!!!

Since you are ignorant, I fixed it for you. True Husker fans hate Creighton, since most Creighton fans act like Hawkeye fans.

More players in the NFL? Now? In the past 10 years? In the past 30 years? What do you mean? Right now, NU probably doesn't have as many, because this has been our worst 10 year stretch in 40 years. I never said that we had tons of talent, I said that the Pelini's (as well as Sanders, Brown, and Papuchis) are excellent at teaching and developing talent. Maybe you don't understand getting the most out of your players, but it was something that Tom Osborne and his staff were great at, and Pelini looks like he is good at it too. Also, he has only been here for 3 years.

You play in a weak conference period...I have good friends who are BIG TIME Husker fans...and even they admit that playing in the B12 North gives them 2 or 3 games a year at least with no pressure.
Does the Big12N have 3 weak teams, yes. Does the Big 10. Yes. Since the Big 12 was formed, we have had 3 different teams win MNC, and had quite a few others play in the MNC game. The Big 10 has had 1 MNC in that time, and that win was highly questionable. The Big 10 has been a joke until the last 2 years. The Big 12 had 5 teams go 10-2 this year and were rated between 9 and 20. Thats not too shabby. Looks like the Big 10 is having its problems in the bowls, too.

You and I both know that we can't say whether kids like to play for Bo or not.
They do, see how much differently the team plays for him as opposed to Crapahan. And, there aren't many highly recruited kids leaving the team after the season, unlike Iowa. I CAN say that they love to play for him, just read any of the recruiting article and how the players love his honesty and passion.

If their talent is so good then why do they lose the games they do?
Pay attention. Again, I never said that we had that much talent, I said that this Bo does a great job at coaching these guys up. I wasn't sure how talented we were before the season, but since the season ended, the only team that we played that was equally or more talented as was OU. Lets see: Henery, Crick, Prince, Hagg, and David all received All-American honors.

Why does any team lose? Stupid penalties, turnovers, not being prepared to play, not getting any breaks, and a bad offensive coordinator.

Their is a lot more to all coaches behind the scenes...how many other coaches do you see dropping F bombs, ripping his players, his coaches, the media???? He is embrassing on the sideline...
You must not watch much football, or sports in general. Ever see the Stoops Brothers, Spurrier, they don't call Muschamp "Coach Boom Mother F'er" for nothing? How about Coach K? Lot's of coaches act in a similar fashion.

I agree with you on this, for now. Only time will tell how good Bo will be at being a HC. He turned this team around in 1 year. We all hope that he stops ingoring the offense, and get a few new offensive coaches (OC/qb/wr/ol) because this offense has lost us too many games in the past 2 years, while only winning us 1. If he makes the moves needed, we will be right back where we should be.

I suppose since his guys will run through a wall for him how do you spin the bowl debacle...Omaha papers said practices in Lincoln were a joke...practices in California were awful and there were hints of quitting by the team and coaches.
I heard that the practice were better than what you are saying, but there is no spin. The team (cough, cough, offense) was uninspired, and played horribly. Stupid penalties, turnover, and a horrible called game by Shawn Watson. I have no idea why this happened, but it was obvious that they were not prepared to play. I've heard that the offensive players hate T-Mart, that they have given up on the coaches, that they didn't care about playing in a game that they played in last year, against a team they whipped earlier, in a letdown game after the lost the CCG. Ultimately, it falls on Bo, and I hope he does what he needs to do. Its only his 3rd year as a HC, and he has done a good job so far.

He's a guy who's severely depressed because his team just gave a pathetic performance and now has many questions going into next year. He feels the need to take out his frustration on others. Sorry you had to leave the B12 because you could never beat Texas, pal.

I was wondering the other day with all the talk about so many college quarterbacks not prepared for the NFL because of running the spread, why doesn't the Hawks ever get a highly rated quarterback recruit due to running the Pro Style offense? I would think at least once in a while we could snag one that was looking for a system that would prepare them well. And this is in no way shape or form a bash on Ricky. Just something that I was wondering recently.
