3rd downs

I think 3rd downs were what really killed Iowa this year. On O & D. Anytime we needed a stop we couldn't get a stop. On O it just makes me mad every week we have like a 3rd and 10 and we run a 3 yard out or in. Yesterday against Minnesota I can recall 4 times that we had 3rd and 8+ and we ran 4 yard routes. What is the point of that. Hopefully we can use the bowl preparation and get ready for next season.

The amazing thing to me was that through 66% of the season, two thirds, which was the MSU game, Iowa was converting 51% of their third downs. The last four games, just 34%.

You won't be surprised to learn then that through eight games, Iowa's defense was allowing just 32% of opponent third down conversions. The last four games, when the offense went AWOL on third down, the Iowa defense was on the field more often and allowed 51% of third downs to be converted.

Why even consider dumping it off when the back has 3 guys on him and we need more than 3 yrds.5th yr Senior didn't get it done as far as I'm concerned.Last 4 games we avg. 19 pts on offense,that's not good enough either.The fans were there every week even to the away games cheering our guys on so I say the coaches and players need to look into the mirror because they dropped the ball this year.With everyone coming back and the way we lost our games it was a disappointing season and I feel there's 4 phases to the game(off.,def.,special teams and coaching)and we stunk it up in our losses this year.Enough blame to go around to everyone but the FANS.We did our part.
