Why does everyone think it's suddenly the end of the world?

Iowa WON their let down game that they usually win. Even the best teams in the country have let down games, but the good teams pull those out. Anyone remember how we needed 2 blocked field goals in a row to beat a 1-AA team last year and then bounced back, and then barely beat a crappy Ark State team and then bounced back and won 10 games, and the freaking Orange Bowl? Anyone remember Alabama needing a blocked game winning field goal attempt to beat a bad Tennessee team and then WINNING THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP?? We won a road game in the big ten. Now we move on to the next week. We play two games on the road against lesser competition and a home game against a very good team for a share of the Big Ten AT LEAST.

Everyone forgets we had one of the biggest wins in NCAA history against a top 5 team and all they see is an Iowa team that didn't cover the spread against a 4-4 team. I've seen some people jump off the bandwagon when times are bad, but never with a 7-2 team, ranked 13th in the country and on the verge of a possible rose bowl.

I agree, it wasn't pretty. Very frustrating/nerve-wracking but WE WON. Let's move on to Northwestern.

first time on this board, or any Iowa fan site? The board splits into 2 groups after this kind of win over a team Iowa should've blown out.

I'm not mad at all. I understand fully that we actually won our normal "pee down our leg" game, something that in the past we usually don't do. The team will be fired up this week, and I don't see any reason they should be looking ahead to OSU because if they lose this week, next weeks game means almost nothing. Not only that, but NW has owned us the last few years and some of these guys actually want to beat them before they graduate.

But you don't know this is our normal "pee down our leg" game yet, because that normally comes against Northwestern and we have yet to play them.

I'm not sure if I consider last years NW game our "pee down our leg" game since last year they took our QB out.

Most top 20 teams have a scare or two during the regular season. Look at Nebraska, for example.

Good teams find a way to win even when not playing their best football.

Iowa got a win. Time to look to Northwestern.

Not to mention that in 2008 they knocked Green out of the game in the 3rd quarter and took advantage of 5 Iowa turnovers. Still, Iowa had chances to get back into both of those games and didn't. 1st and goal from the 8 two years ago, and then a long TD run by Wegher called back by a holding call last year.

It sure would be nice to get this one.

I see both sides of this issue....

On one side we were ripe for a big letdown after the MSU game and given the prospect of playing a team like Indiana (dink and stink offense) in a sterile environment like that.

The other side is this team has no margin for error after two losses and two tough games coming up. We also had been 4-4 against this crappy program in the last 8 so some attention to detail was warranted. The frustrating part for myself and others in the fan base is the lack of 'hunger' and 'sense of urgency' that the team displayed this Saturday. The team made a number of suttle plays and mistakes that indicated that they were only going through the motions. Not finishing drives against an awful defense let an IU team hang around. You could feel we were not with it after our first drive that ended in a FG. Very surprising effort given the veteran leadership on this team and stakes.

OK.... the good news is IU dropped the pass. Now let's hope for a much better effort the last 3 games.

Agree with the OP. People are over-reacting and I think it's because too many thought a conference title was a given this year. And some spent too much time fantasizing about a national title.

Oregon may be blowing everyone up 50-10, but the other 118 fbs teams aren't. I laugh every time I see an attack on the third-rated passer in the country. We are tied for first with the best QB in the Big Ten and too many think they are entitled to more. Those people are also voters which explains why politicians keep telling people they are "entitled" to incredible health and wealth just by being born.
