Iowa State receives honors from national media



Is this a surprise? We could be on that list every year.

I am actually pretty happy with our recruiting. We are getting the guys that we want. Usually by this time of the year we have 5 commits. They may not have offers but the staff liked them enough to offer them in May. Some guys have great size at spots were we haven't had size in a long long time

Way to stay optimistic! If I was an ISU fan I would have to look on the bright side too just to keep me from taking razor blades to my wrists!
 


Yeah I remember how awesomely ranked Ferentz's first few classes were. Man good thing Iowa was able to get the talent right away :rolleyes:

If college kids play that big of a roll in your life, than you should just go ahead and end it now hawkfromnorwalk. I mean really, it's college football.

And say what you want but there is something to getting the guys you want early on. It's a lot better than the guys you land a week before signing day. I wonder if there is any stats out on it but those are usually the guys that fizzle out and never make a big impact on your program. ISU needs guys that are going to stay. They will never get the 4/5 star guys. They need to build depth. I think Rhoads will do a great job with that

If they're relying heavily on the "star" rankings, you can pretty much ignore the list. We haven't been loaded with 4/5 star recruits either, but our coaching staff has developed many players into great college players with legitimate NFL potential. Give the ISU coaching staff a little time to see how they develop their players.

When no one else wants "the guys you want", getting "the guys you want" doesn't really say much.

It's kind of like taking home the fat ugly chick from the bar every night and being pumped because you are getting what you want.

I know. It only works for Iowa to go into small towns in the midwest and pull out good players. No other program can do it. If Iowa got Jevohn Miller from Brooklyn I guarantee you people would love him. But since he has no stars and is going to ISU....he sucks.
 


I'm not saying you don't have a few good football players mixed in there. I'm saying it's hard to spin a recruiting class ranked 5 from the bottom in all of college football. The recruiting services might be wrong about a few kids, some might be under valued or under rated, but they don't get them all wrong.

I didn't say they did. And I'm not arguing with our ranking. If I was doing the rankings I would do the same thing. I'm just saying as a fan of ISU it will be refreshing not scrambling in January to fill out a class. There is something to getting the guys you want early on.

At ISU we will never get the big time talent so we have to build depth more so than other programs. We can't afford to take kids and not have them play at ISU. McCarney had to much of that his last 3 years and it has killed our depth and we still haven't gotten back from it.

I was taking that from the article. I'm sorry I don't follow ISU commits. Sorry I'm a Hawkeye fan. I don't go on to ISU boards like some ISU fans do to our boards.

And for the record there is about 10X more Iowa fans trolling CF than there are here
