Any ideas how we prepare for Roundtree?

In another thread, the consensus was that the DL and ends need to stop D-Rob at the LOS before he gets to the next level. But he seems to have a quick, if low, release, and his favorite receivers are Roy Roundtree and Darryl Stonum. They both appear to be burners who could give our secondary fits. How do we game-plan for them? Here are their stats through five games:

NAME GP RC YDS AVG TD LONG AVG/G
Roundtree, Roy 5 25 337 13.5 2 74 67.4
Stonum, Darryl 5 15 226 15.1 2 66 45.2

I'm not sure about that Stronum guy but we could probably just round up a half dozen street level thugs to take care of Roundtree...

Tackle him. He isn't a big down field threat but he will catch and run. Stonum is sort of in between. It seems Junior Hemingway is coming on as the primary downfield threat. Supposedly he has the best hands on the team and can go get jump balls. He doesn't posses a large amount of speed so in the Michigan gameplan he doesn't catch a bunch of balls but when he does they are long ones. If I were ranking them on priority to shut down I would say

1. Roundtree
2. Stonum
3. Hemingway
4. Odoms

Odoms, until this year was the go-to slot guys but Roundtree came along late last year and since Odoms was too good not to be in the lineup he will play a lot outside and move in at times. Kelvin Grady also will play but he is mor of a quick hit and run guy with sketchy hands at times and the ability to get loose.

Just like stopping Denard, the key is to tackle. If you do that, you will slow them down. Honestly the only guys that are the ones who will at times look for contact and be that sort of player are Shaw and Hopkins. Hopkins is a beast but he has fumbling issues. Shaw is hurt right now but is likely to play Saturday. It's possible that by the time Iowa rolls around, you could be seeing guys with less than 20 carries on the year in Cox and Smith. That does not make me feel good. They need Shaw to have a lot of success.

The worst thing that could happen is for Roundtree to get "A Big Score". Our only hope is that he is breaking up a smuggleing ring in Africa that week, because we know he won't cop out to the Iowa d.

I think Stonum better be prepared for us this time....
