Pregame all time best Iowa Team Poll

I could not believe the I Wireless all time best Iowa Team in the pregame before Ball State. Did anyone catch it?

Anyways it had the 1956, 1985, and 2009 teams. However there were a few teams that should not have been omitted from the pool. I would have included 1939 and 1900. But an even greater team was left out.

Think back to 1921. The team had 4 all Americans Lester Belding, Aubrey Devine, Duke Slater and Gordon Locke. They beat Knute Rockne's Notre Dame team that was on a 20 game winning streak. Also note it was the only loss of Eddie Anderson's college career.

They dominated all of their Big 10 foes. Thus winning the big 10 championship. They were invited to play in the rose bowl, but were forced to turn it down by the big 10. They were named National Champions by NCAA selector Parke H. Davis.

In conclusion I must say that a team that beat the best. Won both the Big 10 and National Championships. Had 4 all Americans. Should at least get a spot on the poll. Thanks for taking the time to listen to my rant.

You make a convincing argument for sure. Too bad most of us can't think back to '21 to be able to show what we feel as the best team ever.

IMO, the 2002 team may have been the best TEAM ever. Talk about a team that wasn't suppossed to do a whole lot and began to work together as a team. One loss in the regular season. A very weak National Championship game that year with tOSU vs. Miami (Fl). I still say that the National Championship game was played as Iowa vs. USC that year due to tOSU not facing Iowa and Miami's marginal schedule. I digress though, if we would have beat the 'Clowns...what might have been?

2009 was probably one of the most exciting.
1985 was probably the most complete team on both sides of the ball.
1956...I wasn't even thought of yet, but my dad says it was one of the greatest all time.

It was a great tribute no matter what and it was fun to vote for Chuck Long, "Butterfingers", and the '85 team.

That Miami team was one of the best two teams in the country. You can make the argument that USC was better than OSU. But Miami still had a lot of players left from what was arguably the most talented team in CFB history. Ken Dorsey, while not a good pro, was a VERY good college QB. Willis McGahee, Andre Johnson, Kellen Winslow, Sean Taylor, Jonathon Vilma, D.J. Williams, the list kind of goes on. That was hardly a weak NCG. You want a weak NCG, look no further than USC-OU in 2004.

If we can only consider teams from our live times then call it that. If it is the best all time team we need to consider them all. So the best way to do it would be to have one team per each of their great eras. Start with the Alden Knipe era, both the 1899 and 1900 teams were undefeated. Then Howard Jones two undefeated teams 1921 and 1922. Then Eddie Anderson's 1939 Ironman team. One of the Forest Evashevski teams 1956, 1958 or 1960. One Hayden Fry team that being 1985. Then one Kirk Ferentz team 2002, 2004, or 2009.

So a poll should probably have these teams: 1900, 1921, 1939, 1956, 1985, 2009.
