We are going to win the National Championship.

We will be ranked number #9 again in 7 weeks.
Will be number #7 when we play number #1 Ohio State.
When we beat Ohio State we will be number 3 or 4 and knocking on th door waiting for an upset or two.

Ok, I know, pipe dream. But don't be suprised if we move up three spots just next week. Alabama plays three rank teams in a row and I think two of them are on the road. So if OSU could be number #1 and we beat them being #7, could make things interesting.

Who knows, we could be 7-5 too.

Not feeling to confident about that OSU game right now. Not that I feel too confident about any year we play them...

we will be fine. i remember how lousy i felt after the loss to ISU in 2002, and that turned into a great year. kirk is the master of regrouping and this year will no exception. hang tough hawk fans, there are plenty of wars ahead. look at it this way, we could be cyclone fans, and have not much to look forward to.

I see you're still in the bargaining stage of the grieving process. I was once like you.

Yes, it is a long process, only cure is another loss. Than it goes to we can still go to Rose Bowl. That is only cured by a 3rd loss which in turns becomes "we can still go to the Capital One Bowl Syndrome". If a fourth loss occurs, than it becomes "At least we aren't Iowa State". There is no cure for "at least we aren't Iowa State".

I'm proud to say that I made it to stage 5 -- acceptance. Although, being on this board and reading some of the posts is causing me to almost revert to the prior stages

Jester,

(shouting and shaking you).....FORGET ABOUT A NATIONAL TITLE!!! Forget about rankings entirely. Pretend they don't exist.

Sorry, it had to be done.;)

No, no, no! It's over! It's all over!

Then I suppose you're content with Run of the Mill Bowl, instead of Rose/BCS Bowl or National Championship?

That's not what I'm saying. I let myself get caught dreaming about the NCG, and overlooked just about every game except for the OSU game. That doesn't have any affect with what happens on the field, but it sets me up for the huge letdown. I said all summer that the Arizona game would be tough. Then a couple weeks ago I got caught up in the crowd thinking we would win easily. I'm just going back to treating the next game as the only one that matters, and stop daydreaming about the OSU game.

Well, that's your own fault for overlooking opponents. Although, being that you're not a player on the team, whether you overlook anybody has no bearing on any game, so overlook who you want. :)

I want the players to dream big. And imo whether they dream big or not has nothing to do with whether they overlook somebody. You can dream for a NC and be grounded in the reality that you have to earn it. I think last year's team is a pretty good example of that, and they didn't fall that far short, all things considered.

Like I said, I know that my overlooking of an opponent has no impact on the game. But it sets me up for a big letdown. I'd rather just focus on the next game, and let things fall into place. Because I've got no control over what happens on the field.
