Comparing Iowa 09 to Iowa 10 ...

at game 3 of the season.

Offense:
WR: Edge Iowa 2010 -- McNutt had only played 2 games at receiver in 09 so better in 10, DJK=DJK, Sandeman=Stross

TE: Edge 09 -- When Moeaki healthy but that was 50% of the season

Oline: Even -- The 09 line was more experienced but not healthy. I don't think they had 3 consecutive games all year with the same lineup. Only 1 player started all 12 games.

QB: Edge 10 -- Stanzi year older and more confident

RB: Big Edge 10 -- Arob was starting 2nd game and Wegher inexperienced as well. The Arob this year is vastly improved to Arob at any point last year. Hampton > Wegher after 2 games last year.

Defense:
Dline: Edge 10: In 09 Ballard had just moved inside and Klug had started 2 games. Better depth on 10 squad with Daniels and Daniel.

LB: Big Edge 09: Angerer and Edds were experienced and talented. Nielsen and Tarp are talented but not experienced.

DB: Push: Sash and Greenwood are a year older and better. Hyde is similar to Prater at this point last year. Prater not quite as experienced as Spievey but close

Special Teams:
All areas appear to be a push as it is the same personnel as last year the one area that needs to get cleaned up is kickoff coverage.

To me the 2010 team has an edge in 4 areas the 09 team had 2 units stronger than the current team and 3 areas pushed.

I think you have to give the DB edge to 09. Spievey was that good for us. He shut down half the field.

I can see that but he was actually in the exact same position as far as starts and experience and moving from the #2 to #1 corner as Prater at this point in the season. We will see if Prater develops into the shutdown corner Spievey developed into through last year.

I understand that Moeaki was a solid TE, but so far Herman and Reisner have been stellar in my opinion. I'd disagree and give the TE an edge for this year. Plus, Moeaki was injured a bit last year. Just a thought...

Spievey was the #1 corner in 08 as well. He was better than Bradley Fletcher.

We are definitely deeper in 2010 with CJ. I think that Tony allowed the team to stretch the field down the seem, maybe Reisner can too I just don't know at this point. With health I can definitely call it a push between 09 & 10.

That may be true but it is hard to rate a unit that most people have as one of the top 5 defensive back fields in all of college football as anything worse than a push. I guess you see the 09 unit stonger and I see the two units as equal.

Herman and Reisner have stretched it down the field plenty already, however I know its not against competition, but so far they have.

This years O-Line has to get a big edge, if you are just looking at the first two games of each. Honestly, the o-line last year looked like crap the first two games. Granted, it was mainly because of all the injuries, but they still looked like crap. They ended the season average, this years line has performed nearly as well so far as last years line at any point of the regular season.
