When was Iowa's last non-bowl win out West? I don't have a media guide, but it's been awhile, I believe.

Was it Hawaii in 1984?
W - 12-01-1984 - @ Hawaii 17-6

How about their last mainland non-bowl win out West?

Just another random thought.

What would a Pac Ten or west coast team's record be in Iowa... say in late October or November?

Iowa beat Arizona in Tucson in September 1987 - that was the game that Chuck Hartlieb established himself as Iowa's starting quarterback, over Dan McGuire and Tom Poholsky. I want to say the final was 15-14, a hard fought win over Dick Tomey (in his first year at UA).

"Iowa has not beaten a ranked non-conference foe on the road since 1976..."

Picked that up on another thread. If true, that is a stat that needs to change. We don't get that many opportunities, but 1976 is a long, long time!

This West Coast road game stuff is a bunch of BS. Throw in Bowl games in Texas and we got a way better record. Yeah we haven't won, but we've played arizona, arizona state, and oregon like in 4 games. What non-conference BCS east coast team road games we won. We're like 1-2 against miami, pitt, syracuse since 87. Wow 1-2 east coast 0-4 West! Big difference, anybody ever thought that it has more to do with early road non-conference BCS games then west coast east coast??? This just in......They're not gimmies

Acctually, the Big 10 in general has not beat a PAC 10 team at home for a very long time.

That's another of those somewhat misleading stats. How many times have we PLAYED a ranked non-conf opponent on the road since 1976?

We've been to Nebraska, Oklahoma and Penn st (pre conference membership)...that's about all I can recall.

Looked it up. 1. Lost to Hawaii in '88 (final season record of 6-4-1)
2. Lost to Colorado in '92 (final season record 5-7) - not sure this one even qualifies as being out west.
3. Lost to Oregon in '94 (final season record of 5-5-1)
4. Lost to AZ in '98 (final season record of 3-8)
5. Lost to ASU in '04 (final season record of 10-3)

Only the '88 and '04 teams were worth a crap, so not much of a history to go on. It makes for a nice headline, but it is quite meaningless, since it's only been 5 games in 23 years, and 3 of those Hawkeye teams were not that strong. Also, not sure how you don't count the bowl games in the equation, where Iowa has fared better.

The game will be tough because Arizona is good, not because they're playing out west.

Like someone else said...when was the last time we even faced a ranked non-con foe on the road?

Good Points! I was just trying to get an idea of how Iowa has done out West in the regular season. Obviously, we know the Rose Bowl results since the last Rose Bowl win.
