Mike Stoops' interview on CF Live

Maybe I read too much into his comments but he didn't seem like a coach that was very confident his team could physically hang with the Hawks. At one point he started to make a comment like "we need to bounce back because we have a very important conference game the next weekend". I'm paraphrasing but the way he said it and his demeanor gave me the impression that he almost expects to lose. IDK, maybe that's just his version of 'coach speak'. Anyone else catch that interview?

Didn't see it but as a former Hawk, he should just lay down and accept the beating coming his way Saturday night.

Didn't see the interview but he's recently made some pretty disparaging statements about his team, especially on offense. Something to the effect of "We're not playing nearly physically enough up front". That's not the exact quote, but he was clearly concerned about a perceived lack of aggression and physicality on O.

For some reason I don't picture a Stoops brother conceding defeat. Maybe he meant more that the team will need to bounce back from the physical nature that this game should take, win or lose? More of a slap in the face to Pac-10 defenses than expecting to lose.

Or maybe the old Iowa charm is still with him from his Hayden days...and to some extent currently with Kirk. It is the "Iowa Way"....they are great and we are just hoping to field a competitive team! This reminds me of being a kid, my father (HS FB Coach) would describe his teams as "this close to being average:)" anytime he really felt they were going to be pretty freakin good! On the flip side, if he said he thought they could be pretty good, that was coach speak for uhh ohh :) take it as you will

I didn't see this, but it's Obviously his way to motivate his team. I also would be willing to Bet that the team was told to tune into ESPN tonight.

agreed. in some form it is surely coach speak. or sending a message to the team, who knows.

Mike is challenging his team. He knows they need to play their best game Saturday. Surrender...is not a word in the Stoops family dictionary.
