Praters pick, what was Arnaud thinking?

AA seems like a nice kid and everything, but seriously wtf was he doing throwing that ball?

Just saw the replay of that pick and I can't figure out what he was seeing...

It's not just against Iowa. Any time the pressure is on, Arnaud folds like a piece of paper. If he had had the chance to do so in the first half, he probably would have had a couple more interceptions.

And, what I can't seem to figure out is why they don't pull him. If he's that much of a head case, then why take the risk.

I understood last year during the Iowa game why they left him in....you have to let the kid know he's the guy, but it's getting to be habitual.

I was actually thinking about that last night. Most Cyclone fans think it's because Tiller sucks, but I think it's more of a tough love thing from Rhoads. Kind of like leaving a relief pitcher in the game when his team is down by like 15 runs.

I listed to a bit of the post game and someone from the press asked someone from ISU why AA was still in the game in the 4th quarter. The answer was something to the effect that he'd had such a bad game they wanted to leave him in to try and get a score so they'd have something positive to build on next week.

Made pretty good sense to me.

Did you watch ISU play Nebraska or A/M last year? Offense was non-existent - other than one big pass after a trick play. Tiller has a long way to go. Arnaud just seems to put pressure on himself in the Iowa game. I agree with the poster that said it is all mental.

It's not all mental, at least not in the capacity that he plays bad "because it's Iowa". He's not an accurate passer or a good decision maker in the pocket. This has come up in many games that aren't against Iowa. He's a good runner and an C- passer. It's pretty much a known quantity at this point. Against an average to bad defense this will work, but against a good D, the offense will struggle. I do agree that he's your best option for now. Tiller wasn't better than Arnaud last year, but maybe with seasoning he will be.

Man, you missed my point completely. At that point, the game was so out of hand by then that putting Tiller in the game would have made no difference. May as well leave Arnaud in there to take his beating.

Answer to the OP question: he wasn't thinking. That's the problem with arnaud, he has a low football IQ. Nice physical skillset, crappy decision-maker who is prone to panic.

Did anyone consider that maybe Rhoads wanted to give Arnaud every possible chance to lead a TD drive against the Hawks? I'm not making jokes, nor do I mean it in a mean way. I really like Arnaud, he's put in all kinds of time and effort to be as good as he can be, and he's never had success against us. It doesn't do the program any good, but I was happy to see Arnaud leave with at least one small victory in his final Cy-Hawk game.

And by the time he threw his first pick, the game was already out of hand. They weren't going to make a comeback by continuing to dink and dunk. He had to make something happen, even if it wasn't there, for ISU to have any chance at all. Obviously the end result wasn't pretty. We pressured him into some bad throws (balls that hit the dirt on out routes, etc.). But he didn't start making ill-advised throws until the circumstances left him with no other choice.
