Hawks Drop to #10 in Coaches Poll

All of this needs to be sent to Barta. I HIGHLY doubt the series stops, regardless of conference changes in the number of games played.

Week 1 Week 2
1. Alabama-1470 1. Alabama-1470
2. Ohio St-1397 2. Ohio St-1410
3. Boise St-1304 3. Boise St-1278
4. Texas-1264 4. Texas-1262
5. TCU-1144 5. TCU-1168
6. Florida-1130 6. Oregon-1122
7. Nebraska-1085 7. Florida-1108
8. Oregon-1054 8. Nebraska-1095
9. Iowa-1027 9. Oklahoma-1062
10. Oklahoma-969 10. Iowa-1050

So Alabama stays the same.
Ohio St, TCU, Oregon, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Iowa gain points.
Boise St, Texas, and Florida loses points.

This has nothing to do with ISU and everything to do with Oklahoma love. Frankly ISU is probably an equal or more respected opponent than their replacment would likely be.

I don't think our OOC schedule is going to look like Directional School, Az, FSU and and 9 B10 games.

I have to ask...if we do drop ISU, who do we replace them with?

Some 'easy win' cupcake that we beat up on? Well, I can see us winning by the same margin against them if we do, because we just don't blow out teams that often. We rarely pour it on.

If we go the route of scheduling another FBS, automatic qualifying team, you're asking for teams that we may or may not beat. Unless we're facing Alabama or someone like that, a loss isn't going to help us either.

Other than perhaps looking for a big change in the way college football rankings are done, the only really good way is to blow up the teams we beat. Rather than winning 35-7, the final should have been 60-0. And even then, an Oklahoma win over FSU would probably still have garnered more attention.

And that's another thing. We're facing these guys when you have matchups like Ohio State v Miami, Florida State v Oklahoma or Alabama v Penn State. There is NO way Iowa v Iowa State screams 'marquee matchup'. Had the other schools also been playing cupcakes, I think Iowa maintains it's position.

Anyway, it's just week 2 and we still have some big games ahead. If we go undefeated, we stand a very good chance at finishing in the top two. Especially if the Big 10 ends up being as strong as it is projected to be.

The week's (yet again) joke of a poll further strengthens the argument to not have any polls come out until after the 4th game of the season.

Why? So that voters will vote exactly the same? Nothing changes until conference play. I say don't vote until BCS starts counting. Then we'd get some really interesting results.

This. Which brings me to the question - Why in a year when you have a chance at playing for the NC do you not jack the score up as high as possible. Style points matter and with BCS being determined by opinion rather than playoffs, I would have left starters in.

The season is still very young. All that really matters at this point is that the Hawks win and that they keep on winning, do that and everything else falls in line.

No way would I have left the starters in, the game was won and potentially another down the road may need to be with a few of the players that got a little experience from that added playing time. In fact, I really thought Vandenburg and company should have came in a series or two prior.

Just win from week to week and it will all play out in the end. Patience fellow Hawkeyes! Tough game this weekend. Let's concentrate on that and not the polls.

That isn't how Kirk operates, and in 12 years of watching Iowa teams under his watch, I can't remember that I've ever seen him do it.

Besides, if he had run it up, that's all you folks would be talking about on CyFan.

I hate to be the one to say this but at this time of the year I think the polls are about right. I know there are teams like Oklahoma and Florida that are there strictly because of tradition and not the fact that they've really proven anything but we have to keep things in perspective. ISU was a great win because it's an instate rival, but it's still only ISU. Beating Eastern Illinois and the clowns isn't something thats going to get everyone talking about Iowa.
All we have to do is hope that we can keep winning and let the record speak for itself and bring in the votes. Lets not forget we're still top 10 and at this time last year we were crying that we didn't get any respect and weren't ranked. Lets enjoy it and let the season play its self out.
