Some of it is amazing, most of it is just people doing their jobs. A lot of these guys had no real other viable options for employment so they enlisted, went to boot camp, got great training, got deployed and quietly and efficiently went about doing their jobs.
Most are not Pat Tillman or the Staff Sargeant.
I don't say this to belittle what they do. I say this because I think we should save over the top recognition for those who exceed well beyond the norm. For everyone they should get the same quiet respect we should provide to anyone that goes about doing their job quietly and efficiently and keeping our great country great.
Calling someone who just goes about doing their job amazing or a hero is like telling our children they are great artists for scribbling. It has messed our kids up and will mess these guys up as well. When they get back, look them in the eye, shake their hand, and give them a job. They need that more than over the top platitudes.
Save the amazing talk for guys like the Staff Sargeant.
