IOWA WRESTLING OMG!!!

I've always had a ton of respect for Tom and Terry. I think both care tremendously about what they do and are completely genuine - what you see is what you get. They're not interested one iota in what people outside of the wrestling room think. There's an impervious shell of pride and integrity there.

That said, I've been saying and posting for the past 6-7 years that I honestly think their old-school approach to coaching wrestling is wearing thinner and thinner, and resulting in burnt out student-athletes and increasingly diminishing returns.

Where I struggle, is that I have absolutely no ideas on how the administration (and, more importantly, the boosters) could fix it. A coaching change would likely grease the skids on the downward spiral. Suddenly having much more NIL funds no doubt would help, but the deleterious impact of the coaching style would still be present.

At the end of the day, barring some major program implosion, PSU will remain untouchable for at least the next 5-10 years anyway. It's all going to be a battle for second.
Take a cue from KF. He's on his third reinvention. He gets good at doing things a certain way which leads to success. Then others adapt forcing him too eventually.

The Brands need to reinvent the wrestling team with a more modern approach to combat.

Perhaps.

The question is, "Can they?"

For some personality types, modifying core philosophies just isn't a possibility.

Attended the meet Friday. Not a full house by any means. But the only wrestlers that I thought wrestled with any aggression was Caliendo, Kennedy and Farrari. Maybe Williams, but everyone else looked a step slow and had zero offense. Frustrating. I am with you, that Penn State on the horizon could be a massacre.

Hoping Penn State brings their JV.

I surely won't be going to this one but will watch from home, even as hard as it will be. They'll wrestle to score points and we'll wrestle to avoid wrestling. Yikes.

Yeah, I won't be attending. In part, the ticket prices were obviously outrageous with the anticipation of it being a #1 vs #2 match up. Unless Iowa flips the script, I see this as one sided. The meet Friday was also having a moment to recognize former Hawkeye, Tony Cassioppi who is now an assistant for Wisconsin.

Yeah that was nice. Glad to see him get recognized. Great Hawk
