Iowa fans are fed up with the pettiness of a former Hawkeye hooper

Connor is a great Hawkeye, one of the toughest sons of bitches I've ever seen play, and that's going back to the mid 80s. He squeezed about every drop of natural ability out of his body and gave the Hawks everything he had. He played whichever position his coaches asked, from point guard to power forward, and guarded that range too. He scrapped for every rebound and loose ball he could. He never backed down an inch, especially to any player from Illinois. The last couple of Hawkeye teams he was on would not have won as many games as they did without him.

Let's give him a little grace and remember him fondly. Some of the tweets are immature, and he's old enough to know how he's perceived because of them. But men in their 20s still do a lot of immature stuff. And father-son issues add a little more complexity to it.

I hope he comes around eventually, and until then I hope he vents privately instead of for all to read. And I hope he and Fran will eventually let the Hawks honor Fran with a homecoming.

CMc’s dead to me permanently just like anyone who hates the Hawks. Don’t hate him, don’t love him, don’t wish anything bad for him . The Hawks are bigger than any McCaffrey and if he’s gonna shit on the Hawks, he’s never gonna get any love or respect from me.

Like I said, I don’t wish anything bad on him and don’t wish great things either, he just doesn’t exist. Nothing personal, strictly business. I wouldn’t wish great things for Nebraska fans either. He made money while he was here, became a cabana boy for a rich chick he met at Iowa, and he’ll never have to worry about money in his entire life because of his inheritance that came from Iowa. If you ain’t with us you’re against us and that’s the way it has to be.

Goes for any shit talker…Fant, Moss, Frederick, Charlie Jones, et al. Enemies of the state.

Moss?

It’s a nope for me.

And being in your late 20s is old enough to learn that you have to live with what you do and say. You don’t get a pass at that age for lashing out and deleting. That’s worse than lashing out an owning it, which is a sign of being an entitled baby who’s never had to worry about repercussions.

He gave a lot of time and effort when he played here, but the University of Iowa gave him the most charmed of all lives for the rest of his life. He’ll never want for anything as long as he lives so in my mind all is square in that regard. He can own his temper tantrums like the rest of us have to.

There’s no love lost in this situation.

He probably would just “own it”, but given who is dating(and I am assuming who he is love with) that this shit is just not that simple. As I stated before, I get why he is bitter, not condoning it, but I get it.

Honestly, did he think his father was going to coach at Iowa for the rest of his life. Getting that many years with that long of leash is pretty damn good in this day and age, IMO.
Yeah I don’t get it. He acts like his dad has the resume of tom Izzo. Iowa could hit 30 years without a men’s sweet 16 game. Fran also had some negatives including random odd behavior that looked borderline psychotic at times.

Most fans appreciate effort Connor put in as well as some of the offenses and player development his dad achieved. But nothing he did warranted a life time contract. It’s extremely off putting, especially with the current forecast for employment for some, to seem entitled to something not earned.

I quit feeling sorry for the McCaffrey family when Fran got his $4 Million buyout from the university, no problem. The family is set for life financially, even the 4 kids. I wish them all good luck, health, etc.

If Fran has a gripe, it would be that as the all-time winningest coach in Hawkeye history he didn't get to go out on his own terms. But it was time. Down deep he knows that.

What is Cooner doing now? I hadn't heard he wasn't coaching at Butler anymore, but I looked up the coaching staff, and he's not listed. In the Butler coaching profiles the below paragraph indicated to me he's not there anymore.

Connor McCaffery joined the Butler staff as an assistant coach in September of 2024. In his lone season with the Bulldogs, McCaffery helped Butler to a postseason berth as the team made the field for the inaugural College Basketball Crown in 2025.

Is he just managing Caitlin's affairs? Are they still together? I don't see much of them together online. Sometimes I wonder if she hasn't gotten too big for him. Plus, if he's so down on the Hawkeyes, that doesn't seem to equate to her love affair with all things Hawkeyes.

I see Jack is riding the bench at Butler as a freshman. He's played in 9 of 13 games, scored a few points about what you'd expect, I guess. After the tragic accident in high school I'm sure he has his own issues to deal with.

I see Patrick is playing professionally in Romania. Seems like a long way from home but maybe that's a good thing.

I sense somewhere down the road, years down the road, there will be a reconciliation between all things Iowa and the McCaffrey family. I could even see a McCaffrey jersey hanging in the rafters representing them all. This could be in a newly built arena! The crowd will come to its feet with a standing O. OK, maybe not.............

go hawks

Never liked the all time wins thing. Winning percentage over a minimum number of years should be the measuring stick. A .490 coach who stays employed long enough will become the winningest coach eventually.

Coincidentally, Fran has an identical W/P as Alford, .589.
