Hopefully, the girls and the coaches will approach this as a learning experience and use it to make some positive adjustments moving forward. Jan and the staff will need to walk that fine line between critiquing performance and maintaining confidence.
Competing with the "big boys" without a Caitlin Clark is going to require not only great recruiting, but also cracking the whip with those recruits. Coaches like Auriemma have great success because they not only recruit marquee players, but they also aren't afraid to coach them hard. Auriemma drills his teams to death, both in terms of running play sets and with strength and conditioning.
Jan has demonstrated a knack for competing on the recruiting front. The harder step is getting those recruits to buy in to a system where they are going to have to work harder on the game and their bodies than they ever have before. That's a tall task when you don't already have that built-in aura like UCONN, Stanford, South Carolina, etc.
