So who's having the worst Sunday...

Nah…

His buyout is bigger than the one Franklin had, he’s got 7 years left on his contract, and he’s in the same spot as Matt Campbell. No one breathing down your neck expecting wins. Wins are just a bonus

Nobody’s gonna pay Indiana $57 million and then turn around and start paying Cignetti $10-12 million a year.

OSU
Michigan
Notre Dame
Penn St.

When those jobs come open, Campbell and Cig are having serious conversations in their inner circle, in terms of pursuing them or not. This isn’t Matt Campbell dismissing USC, when the PSU AD starts kicking the tires both are going to think long and hard about it.

Ummm...

Not breathing down his neck now, but wait until they "under perform" next year.

People get spoiled fast. The footsteps will start soon.
Indiana knows there’s no one better who’d go there if they have a downturn. Same as Matt Campbell and PJ Fleck.

Luke Fickell is 52.
James Franklin is 53.

These guys are hyper-competitive people and the failure eats at you. Having money doesn’t always fix that…see Bill Belichick. Both are just young enough where they might be willing to reset as coordinators and make one more run to be a head coach in 3-5 years.
The question was who’s having a “worse day.”

I don’t care if Franklin decides to retire, coach again, or work at Subway. There’s nothing bad day about receiving $50 million dollars to leave your job.

They are kids.

The only thing that spoiled my excitement of Franklin getting canned was the buyout. Couldn't stand him and absolutely despised the guy. Loved seeing his final loss at PSU as I sat there with a huge smirk on my face loving every second of it only for it to be short lived and turn into a frown knowing he'd finally got canned but was making bank in the process. It's bitter sweet.

His contract probably has a duty to mitigate clause which means he doesn't get the money unless he's actively looking for coaching job and the buyout money technically decreases if he's hired. If I'm him I'd be applying to OSU and Oregon this morning, followed up by Hawaii as a backup cushy spot if they want to push it.

I do have a friend who works in sports management who says big time agents are really, really good at navigating around those however, and that these huge buyouts normally aren't contested.

Take from that what you will.
