KF Tenure and future

I sincerely hope he and Beth are sitting down once a week and having a cup of coffee. Maybe even a slice of pie. And not talking about football. Just two professionals in the same industry. One on the backend of his career and one who is on the beginning stretch of the road to her apex.

Just chatting. Building a rapport apart from all other decisions they might tussle over. So that there are no surprises from either side on the ultimate decision. That when a decision is made on either side, they have agreed to appear to make it together. And that they work together on what comes after.

I would not be surprised if something akin to your description takes place.

Does that sound like something KF would do?
He and Barta? Maybe.
But with a new A.D. who personally fired his son?? Uhh.....no.

I'd like to hear you tell me, how much longer will KF be HC. And when he retires will he simply step down in title and remain involved? Will Beth go outside like MBB or will she opt for continuitiy as in WBB.

I've already hear people say who they don't want, no need to share.

I think KF is pooped and there does not seem to be lot of energy about elevating the program to the next level.
I have no idea how much longer KF will be HC....and neither does anyone else. My guess is that not even KF knows -- he seems like the type of guy who will step down "when it feels right".

I DO know this: beating rival Wisconsin four years in a row, with the last two being absolute POUNDINGS, relieves a lot of pressure and buys a lot of goodwill from the Iowa fan base!

ISU
Wisconsin
Minnesota
Nebraska

The last ten years Kirk is 31-11 against those schools. That buys a lot of goodwill.

I would love to see him stick around until his contract expires. I will admit, it seems he is exhausted. Maybe it's just age catching up to him. Idk. What we are is blessed. Blessed to have a coach who has taken this program (with cupboards bare) and made it into a pretty consistent program for the last 20+ years.

His detractors complain one week and celebrate him the next. Yet, he continues to do the job, and quite honestly has done more with less (along with his staff) than other programs with more talent. I have no ideas grandeur that we get this huge coaching splash when KF decides to hang it up.

In the day and age of the transfer portal and NIL, I don't see Iowa ever going all in on the program and making a push like an Indiana or other programs. Before the NIL and etc, KF has built a culture. A culture that his staff and he foster to create some pretty solid ball players and even better young men.

For that I've been blessed to watch this Hawkeye football team do some pretty special things over the last 20 years. We are fans, we bitch and moan, we Monday morning quarterback, and we celebrate when the Hawkeyes win.

But a cautionary warning: "Careful what you ask for." Look at Wisconsin. How long does Fickell hang on? Does Rhule jump ship to PSU? This will once again crush Nebraska if he does, which won't break my heart. UCLA and USC could be in the same boat. Matt Campbell could be on the move which would be a big blow the Clones.

No, I think KF has earned the right to stay until he chooses to go. I don't see some huge fall off in the next 3 years. That's the one thing that often gets overlooked by his critics. He may not go 11-1 every year, but you can almost be on 8-9 wins every year. How many teams besides Iowa can boast of that over the last 10-20 years?

This is a great post.

I’m 70 now and must admit I’m a fickle fan. Bear Wisconsin 37-0 and I want him to coach forever. Lose to Penn State and the pitchforks come out.

The obvious point is that once again Kirk is fielding a tough team that is competitive! Everyone is ready to crown Indiana as king, and yet we really should have won that game!

We aren’t going to find a better coaching staff. Kirk should keep going if that is what he wants.

Whiners gonna whine. Kirk is doing a better job than many we could get or have right now. Line play both sides of ball excellent this year. With NIL baloney full swing I’d have to say Kirk is doing quite well and we know NIL is not his forte. He gets my full support
