Offensive Line

I sure think they have shown to have improved. Indiana's front 4 were formidable. I thought Iowa adjusted or wore them down some in the game. I think moreover, their pass protection seemed to have evolved positively. Do we know if Beau Stephens' status? He went down in the second half and had to be helped off the field. Stephens was actually the highest rated lineman. But overall as a unit, I think they are better.

This O line is very , very good. Stephen’s better be ok. Dunker also missed a lot of time late in the game. Good time for a bye week and a trip to struggling WI.

The last 2 years the run blocking has been really good. They figured out how to zone block without cut blocking…it took minute, but they got it now. Pass protection has been spotty, but given the quarterback play it is hard to judge.

Mason Richman
Conner Colby

Both are in the NFL.

Dunker
Logan Jones

Both are pros and Stephens is likely a pro.

Given the current state of O-line play in college and the NFL…I’m not expecting perfection. It is difficult for even blue bloods to roll out the 2002 Iowa O-line. So I am okay with George Barnett and with what they are doing. No nitpicking from me.

I also believe Iowa has done a fairly good job in that category recruiting to replace these guys. We have some highly ranked recruits, but as we know until they hit the field and show out, stars by someone's name don't mean a lot.

There was something said, that with Lester's new scheme that zone blocking is a bit modified from how it has been for years. And the pass blocking scheme was a bit more of a change for the offensive line to adjust to. It appears much like the rest of the offense, it took a bit to gel. I think this group is one of the better ones we have seen in some time. It's tough because we were so used to the offensive line being such a staple of Hawkeye football year in and year out. Hoping we are getting back to that consistency. Love watching our offensive lineman and tight ends succeed at the NFL level.
