Hawkeyes vs Indiana Week 5 Depth Chart

KF had said about a week or so ago that VanderZee would sit out through Indiana and return after the bye. Hopefully he comes back 100%.

Tight ends seem to be gradually getting into the passing game. Ortwerth was 2 catches for 24 & 6 yards. Vonnahue 1 catch for 21 yards. Large didn't get any short outlet passes, which might have had more to do with Gronowski's short passing glitches.

Anything foot/ankle-related takes forever to heal. I say leave him out till he's 100%.
Sprains or stress fractures in that area are tough due to weight bearing. They always say sprains are almost worse than breaks. Hopefully we get him going after the bye week. The silver lining is some receivers are getting reps that might not have. I think Howard has potential. Only a sophomore, but the kid has an NFL prototype physique and is 6'5 I believe. I don't care who is out there. Just catch the ball.

Maybe this week we get a perfect storm. Gronowski doesn't throw any knuckleballs to wide open receivers and our receivers catch everything thrown their way. I truly think each week there is improvement.

Did he break his foot? Been a long rehab
I had heard at the time that he broke a bone in his foot. There are a lot of bones in your feet so no idea how serious it was. IIRC, that happened right before the first game against Albany. And as others have mentioned, foot injuries can take a while to heal. And you don't want to come back until you are 100%.

Chucking a wounded duck on third and short. Quack!!!

I'd like to hear from whoever put together the depth chart this week why RB Washington is listed ahead of Patterson. Versus Iowa St. and Rutgers, Washington had 6 total carries for 8 total yds. Patterson has balled out every game this season when given the chance. As a former WR, I can understand putting in Washington for 3rd downs, but other than that the dude needs to sit on the bench.

Against Rutgers Washington was 1 carry for 0 yards and one catch for 16 yards. Can I assume he is better blocker of the bunch.

Yes. So far its been difficult to understand why Washington is in the rotation. Four games, and I don't recall him having a meaningful play. I would rather see the freshman at this point.

Washington has been underwhelming for a guy that Lester seems to think very highly of. Wash is averaging 4.0 per carry, behind Xavier 7.2, Jazz 5.8, Moulton 5.3, even McNeil 5.7. And he dropped a kickoff.
