Hawkeyes handling short week as they hit the road for Big Ten opener

The Iowa football team will hit the road to open up the Big Ten season at Rutgers Friday. The players have mixed feelings when it comes to a shorter week.

Not a fan of any college games on Friday nights

Fridays belong to high schoolers, let them have their night.

I usually go to my (and my son’s) alma mater football games but I won’t this week because of the Iowa game and I know a ton of others who aren’t. I’m selfish I guess and it’s not fair to the kids. So you have a bunch of people not going so they can watch the Hawks, and you have a bunch of fans and parents who will go and be pissed off about having to miss then Iowa game live.

There’s no point other than ad money.

I do however LOVE the Black Friday game against our little brother. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and we always have our family meal that Saturday…I cook all the food for about 20 people (all Hawk fans) so it makes it easier for me to manage not having to stop cooking and prepping for 3 hours.

GF’s family always comes into town Friday morning and we have some R&R time before things get crazy around the house.

I would agree with you on the Black Friday game. It's a nice traditional type game. Plus high school football is done by then, so there's no competition.

That week of football is one of the great sporting weeks of the year.

I'm generally not a fan of Friday night games, however I've got a tournament out of town this weekend and it would be the only chance I get to see the game live. So this one time I'm ok with it, unless we stink it up Friday night.

Short week and lengthy travel are usually not a good combination. Iowa needs to be very efficient on offense. Run the ball, score when the opportunities arise, and don't turn the damn ball over at all.

Not a huge fan of Friday night games but I"m OK with it. And you have the whole day Saturday to watch the other games.

We have done well in the past on Friday night road games, I remember a couple of years ago at Maryland and playing very well. The West Coast trips are another story although I don't recall any Friday night games. KF is pretty good at getting the team ready on a short week.
