Tough day for Kaleb

Botched a kickoff that rolled into the end zone for a touchdown that turned the game around. Apparently he was not sure of the rule when touching the ball that then goes into end zone?

Yeah this sucks... First off did even return kicks for us? Not many if he did. I don't see why they'd have him back there to begin with that's not his thing. He doesn't have the hands/quick twitchy attributes I would think most returners do.

It just seems dumb to have him back there at all so once he fails at it they can pile on him. Dude is a traditional RB use him as such.

This just goes to show how insanely huge the talent gaps are going from college to NFL ball. Football players are completely screwed compared to other sports because there's no feeder leagues. You have Canadian ball, but nobody takes that route anymore anymore and has success. You're either top 32 at your position or you ain't.

Even with baseball they have 4 main levels before the bigs and 99 percent of them don't make it past the first one.

Kaleb Johnson had 15 kickoff returns at Iowa for 26.8 per return. Thirteen in his first season, two in his second.

I don't think he gets cut. He was a third round pick and they aren't going to want to give up on him that easily.

What sucks is they changed the kickoff rules in the offseason (again). He should have known but I can understand his confusion. He'd better make sure he gets that buttoned up or he will be looking for a new place to play.

Thanks. That's what I couldn't remember was 2-3 yrs ago and if he may have done some of it. Obviously Wetjen had last yr. I'm still surprise the Steelers have him doing that. It doesn't feel like his thing to be doing as a rookie in the NFL.

The Steelers drafted Kaleb Johnson because he was excellent at running wide zone. They(Steelers) ignored what he wasn’t asked to do at Iowa. I am guessing, being a 3rd rd. pick, he has a year, maybe 2, to figure this all out.

At this point wouldn't they have to put him on the wire? Try to get something for him. I dunno what his contract looked like. I would assume he got a decent signing bonus too that would pot commit them enough to at least see what happens next off season instead of waiving him now. They don't get that bonus back.

His first two NFL games couldn’t have gone worse. Don’t expect much playing time for awhile. He has the talent, but looks timid out there.
Yeah he's their 3rd back. Inevitably one of those other 2 are going to get nicked up and they'll need him. Granted they haven't been running much or had much success with it. Hence why they drafted KJ so I would think they'd want to throw him in the fire on offense eventually. At least see what they have. But who knows Pitt has been a weird organization for awhile. I thought it'd be a good fit for him but maybe not. But he's gonna have to show something whenever he does get his shot.

The offensive line has been terrible the last few years. A guy like Warren is a shifty back and he sees the holes better than Kaleb right now. I thought the same thing about being a good fit for the Steelers, but a person never really knows. Hopefully he's able to work through it all and see some progress.

Yeah long ways to go yet lots of games yet to play.

Worst case scenario for this season is that he gets sent to the practice squad for a few weeks. But they'll likely need him at some point.
