Vs a Maryland defense stacking the line with 7 or 8 defenders.

Run straight at them to see if the OLine can dominate, run an occasional counter play like a reverse to keep them from total sell out, throw the ball where they ain't there and out to the sidelines if they put 8 in the box to try to outflank them in other words throw it where they are not at and win those battles.

What are your best plays.

My favorites against this:

Screens always work against stacked boxes.

Motion to try to get numbers for a run play if they don't move with the motion or to vacate a zone if they do move with motion.

Something with multiple guys attacking one of the guys left isolated, with or without motion like:

Tracy running deep to run off the corner, LaPorta with a 10-15 yard out and Goodson swings out into the flat. OLB has to pick his poison.

Same thing except with LaPorta on the opposite side running a crossing route behind the LB's, sitting between MLB and OLB and Goodson running a wheel to make the OLB pick his poison.

Oopty fuckin' oop.

I like those quick hitter fakes to WRs then TE leaks downfield like the TD to Laporta last week. I'm not sure why we only run that once or twice a season. We have no problem running other plays that often don't work all that well multiple times a game but when it comes to running something that works we only bust it out a few times.

First time I remember us doing a variation of it was to Dallas Clark way back when. You can also do it off a play action to the RB fake where TE fires off the ball looking like he's going to block initially.

I love that play because it's a simple read for Qb it's a pretty easy throw for them it's just hard to mess it up.

This is a bit different (TE stays in for pass pro, then releases, but still a great design):

And just because we are talking about pretty plays to the TE:

Anytime you have the TE start the play blocking and then release it's a tough play to defend. You catch a team in man with safeties with other responsibilities and it's a big play waiting to happen. Thanks for digging up some great memories!

I,d agree with several posters that the TE position could be key.
Misdirection plays, reverses, bubble screens and I,d love to see Goodson throw from a sweep or quick pitch! From the "I" or most "QB under center" formations, the middle of the field should be open about 7 or 8 yards deep.

Scrap the 2 and 3 yard passes. Every pass at least 5 yards. Receivers get past the sticks on third downs.

I've said it on here before, but I feel certain that they've been setting up a pass by Goodson out of the Wildcat. It would've been wide open against Indiana, but it wasn't there against ISU because they kept their safety back. Didn't see it against CSU, which kind of surprised me, but I missed the meeting where they discussed the game plan. ;)

I've been thinking that with the Wildcat, they should so something other than have TG run the ball. Either a pass or a handoff to Tracy, Jones, etc.

Goodson has handed off to running backs, etc out of the wildcat. Check out last years games. The hawks really havent used it as much this year and maybe because the OLine is struggling to open holes and keep out blitzers.

Please not the wildcat talk again. The wildcat tells the defense that there’s a 99.99% chance that we are going to run the ball. Most teams have been able to shut our run game down when they don’t know we are going to run.
We just need to do a better job of not putting Spencer behind schedule on 3rd downs. Throw more on early downs early in the game and that should open up the run game. If we keep running on first and second down for no gain and hoping for a miracle on 3rd and long, Friday will be a long night.
