Predict next years depth chart

I think this is pretty close except for a few changes. Assuming Jackson, Wirfs, Epenesa and Golston all leave (I doubt Stone declares, but I wouldn't be shocked if Nixon does):

QB - probably Petras, but don't be surprised if Padilla makes a big run at it. He's got a great skill set and KOK really likes him.

RB - Goodson obviously. I've got a feeling that IKM will show well next year if he doesn't bolt.

WR - Smith and ISM will start at the beginning, but they are going to be pushed hard, and slot will be a lot of competition with Tracy, Martin and Ragaini.

TE - LaPorta. Beyer will get every chance at the #2, but, Miamen easily could beat him out.

OL - This will be interesting. A lot of guys got good experience this season, and I think we'll see a lot of rotating again.
LT - Kallenberger (He was playing out of position this year and will look better at tackle.) Plumb, Miller and Endres will be pushing.
LG - Banwart will be given every chance by Kirk and will start early, but Britt is the better option.
C - Linderbaum
RG - Schott. He was terrible in pass-pro yesterday, but the coaches love him. Needs a lot of strength.
RT - One of the three listed pushing Kallenberger

DB - The most difficult to predict, IMO. Could mix and match any number of combinations. Hankins and Stone will start. After that? Anyone's guess. Brents needs to be on the field. He's just too talented. Moss and Johnson have proven they belong. Tough choices for Phil here.

LB - Colbert is the only for-sure. I think Kirk will find a way to start Wade (gut instinct). Niemann, Doyle, Campbell and Jacobs all will push.

DL - Waggoner and Evans (assuming he bulks up) at end. Nixon and Schulte inside. Shannon, VanValkenburg and Lee all will be in the rotation. Need one or two more bodies to step up here. This position is my biggest worry heading into the off-season. Just too much attrition over two seasons.
If we lose Nixon and Golston that’s just unfair. I think Nixon has the talent but hopefully has to put some more on tape to play himself into the earlier rounds. Golston I’m starting to worry about, he definitely could go, especially considering he’d get a lot more double teams without AJE.

Yeah, no one's talking about Nixon, but I could see him declaring. He just seems like the kind of guy that could get talked into it by family/friends. He may not think it through logically.

I think your projections a pretty close. It would surprise me if any of the NFL type guys stay. Pretty tough to turn down millions for a pocket change stipend from the NCAA.

While Iowa will be good at WR, RB, the offensive line is once again going to be the focus. Losing a lot of talent there. Petras looks to be more mobile than Stanley. In addition to some good WRs Petras should have some seasoned TE's to throw to.

Defensively losing AJ hurts, not only for what he does, but for the attention that teams give him. It's not very often they run to his side, and he occupies the extra blocker. On the other hand, Iowa's interior defensive line with be older and larger.

Again the schedule does Iowa no favors. Michigan State, Penn State and Ohio State as cross over games.
Michigan State has lost their mojo. But you can pencil in losses to the other two.

Penn St is beatable, much harder at their place but if you get a few turnovers and get a lead it can happen.

Remember last year the hawks blocked 2 early punts but only got 2 safeties or a safety and a field goal out of them. Those two turnovers could very easily been 14 points instead of 4 or 5. And Kirk weirdly went for that fake punt right before halftime which PSU converted to points and momentum.

We also threw a pick on goal to go. In the 1H Stanley missed a wide open Hockensen for a walk in TD on 4th down. We also had a pick 6. That was a crazy game.

Sadly, I think Franklin is building something there and in my personal opinion Clifford is an upgrade over McSorley. Looks to me like they are set to lose only one offensive starter. Also it’s crazy to think about but that Iowa team likely featured 4 or 5 1st round draft picks, and that doesn’t even include Hooker, Nelson, and Stone.

Is everyone on the OL projections, "better than ezra?" I never get tired of that. Boy, you redshirt and everyone forgets about you. It will be interesting to see if a year with Doyle reshapes his body. You have to think this kids going to be in the mix, then again, Britt appears to be a stud also. There is a nice core of young offensive linemen who are getting experience this year. That bodes well for the future.

I am drawing a blank at the interior DT positions beyond these 4. Perhaps someone is coming up through the ranks I haven’t heard about. Maybe we get someone from either a JUCO or the portal. Isaiah Bruce probably needs another year.

Early entrants to NFL Draft: AJ, Wirfs, AJE.

They're also gonna lose at least 6 starters on D, and that's the part of Penn State's team that scares me recently.

They've led the country in sacks two years in a row.

I am just assuming AJE, TW and AJ are gone. Stone and Gholston are the ones that I am worried about. It is not an easy sell to convince those 2 to come back.

Looking at the depth chart, next year could be a sneaky good year. A type of year where KF excels at. Looking through this thread I am not thinking 7-5 anymore. That back 7 with or without Stone, will be pretty salty.

I can see what your saying that the schedule might favor Iowa. The away schedule isn't as daunting as this years, but next years team looks to be a transition team. Lots of young players getting extended playing time for the first time. Iowa is replacing most of their starting offensive line. Replacing two NFL caliber linemen isn't going to be easy.

The Minnesota, Ohio State, Penn State are going to be tough. All away games. No black Friday game. Wisconsin replaces Nebraska at the end of the year. At Kinnick. That's good.

Who is the RB from Alabama that red-shirted? As I remember he is pretty talented. Second behind Goodson?
Shadrick Byrd. Had a good spring. I do hope he sticks it out because with Sargent and Young likely gone after next year he should have his chances to form a 1-2 punch with Goodson.

I also like the two backs we have coming in Gavin Williams (speed) and Leshon Williams (Power / vision).

Hopefully all of Ohio State's first stringers declare for the draft this year.
