Indiana

Iowa and Indiana are close in stats in most offensive categories. The stats may not tell the story however, since Indiana has played 6 games versus Iowa's 5. And Indiana has just come off a loss to Ohio State. Even so, Iowa is tenth and Indiana is 8th in total offense so neither team has bragging rights on offense. As we know Indiana can throw the ball around. Iowa is going into the game short a linebacker and with two new corners. Even so, I expect Iowa to answer score for score with Indiana. If Iowa's defense can force more 3 and outs on Indiana. Iowa can win this scoring race.

Iowa's edge in this game is the defense. Even with the defensive problems, Iowa should pose plenty of problems for Indiana. Indiana hasn't had two weeks to scheme for Iowa. Iowa is second in the B1G in total defense. Having said that, Indiana has just played against a very good defense in Ohio State. They know how to work against a good pass rush. Even so I expect Iowa to dominate the LOS when on defense. This game will pose problems for Iowa, but Iowa should end up with another win.

Iowa 31-27

Vegas has Hawks opening as 6 point favorites on the road. Indiana is one of those Jekyll and Hyde teams ... they can look great one week and terrible the next. Plenty of tickets available for any Hawk fans interested in traveling to Bloomington.

In Pinto voice: If Antwan Randle-El comes through that door he’ll be gray and old.

I picked this as a loss before the season, and I'm sticking to that.

Ramsey and Scott are real deals. With their offensive scheme against our cover-4, I expect Ramsey to find soft spots in the zone. He's accurate and makes quick decisions. To win, we can't let him get comfortable.

The problem is, if we start getting picked apart and start to bring pressure, I fully expect them to try quick-hitters to Scott. He's big, strong and fast, a lot like Jordan Howard, but perhaps a little faster.

Expect a high-scoring contest, but, the home team will have the edge here.

The next 3 weeks are simply tough matchups for Iowa. Athletic offenses and QBs that can make plays off script. Iowa's DL is going to have to be dominant to win any of the these games coming up.

Other than Penn State, which would be a very big upset, I see Iowa having tough games against Maryland, Purdue, Northwestern. Fortunately Northwestern and Maryland are home games.

I think Indiana will have to play Iowa more honestly, and not cheat to stop the run like Minnesota did, so I expect we'll see more of a balanced offense this Saturday. With Iowa thin at LB and CB not clear who will be available, my belief is that the Hawks will need a Minnesota-like scoring performance to win this one. Indiana seems generous on defense to allow that to happen.

Agree, this is a "gotta contain 'em" game and expect some points. Believe this ?? ...
-- Iowa is averaging just under 30 / game!!?? Indiana is just under 28.

My take:

While the LB's are still very bad at defending the pass, I was very pleased to see Moss and Brents quick learning curve on their technique. Memo to all Iowa defensive backs ... you're athletically fine. Really good things happen when you trust that and simply PLAY THE DAMN BALL!!
-- Key on D: DL continues to reek havoc. Back 4: be patient, play the ball and avoid the flags.

-- Key on O: Get the run game back on track with emphasis on Sargent and Young. Gotta set the bar at 150.
Use IKM for 3rd down relief valve.

Hawks should win if they can control the clock and are even + in turnovers. I'm thinking 31 - 26.

Iowa just needs to stop gifting other teams points like they did against Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Many a season ago - my 9 yr old daughter says "I thought we were playing Indiana? What team is Randle-El?"

Hawks won - but Randle-El scored 2 or 3 different ways....
