I'm surprised there aren't more comments on what a great game he had- probably the stats scaring people off. It was clearly his best of the year. I know he was a hero in the ISU game but last night showed us he's ready to be an excellent QB for the next 2.5 years. Three things we worried about- accuracy, pocket poise/footwork, and mental mistakes- all were outstanding. Drops kill his numbers.
Now if only we had one really really good WR...
 


Brady Quinn sure is high on Nate from his comments during the game. He has all the tools we want to be a great Hawkeye quarterback. His decision-making is better every game. He seems more ready to run if he has to and his passes are more accurate. He needs a tad more time to do his checkdowns sometimes. I am excited for the future with him.
 


He's also more mobile than I think he gets credit for. Not a runner, but mobile. I liked the keeper early in the game. If like to see him tuck and run a touch more on the outside if no one open.

If not for multiple drops, he would have had a pretty big game, stats....and I believe we see at least 2 more scores, and possibly 1 less for minny.

Absolutely agree. What i mean by decision-making was on a play late in the game where he kept the ball and ran out of bounds. More experience and he stays in bounds to burn clock.....
 


Been high on him since he committed. He will end up being an outstanding QB for us, and I predict he will be playing on Sundays.

As stated, it would be nice if we could find him some bonafide receivers. Jeesh, that has been an issue forever. Some people find it hard to believe, but KF has never, ever, had a receiver he recruited play a down in a regular season NFL game. For an 18 year career at a P5 program, that truly is an astounding statistic.

That last part was also true of QB until this year...

Yep. To me, the WR miss is more astounding, though, when you consider that at least 3 WRs actively play each season. You would think that over 18 years, and soon to be 19, at least one would have broken through for at least one play. Ironically, Willies probably has the best shot to be the first.

Very possibly, or maybe McCarron comes off practice squad if necessary.
 


He's been good this year, and he'll continue to get better. The WRs simply have to catch the ball. They make all the catches they should have made last night, and the conversation today about this game is different.
 


Stanley has been good and his stats would be even better if his receivers could catch the freaking ball. I've never seen an Iowa team with so many drops. It has been killing us on 3rd down consistently. He only has 4 INT's and 2 of them were the direct result of his receiver dropping the ball.

To me it gets to somewhat of a contradiction in how Kirk approaches offense. From the beginning of his tenure he has talked about balance and how he wants a team that can throw the ball as well as run it. Yet he insists on establishing the running game first sometimes at all costs. That doesn't lend itself to developing wide receivers. I would like to see us actually play a balanced offense where we attack what the defense gives us which I suspect seems Brian's orientation.

I liked the group we brought in this season at WR but as of yet I don't see any difference makers at least to the extent of how we use them. Easley the possession receiver may end up the best of the bunch.

Speaking of Brady Quinn he is really good as as a color analyst. He is probably stuck doing 2nd and 3rd tier games because of Klatt and the overall pecking order, but he is good.

The whole thing is perplexing. We run what is described as a "Pro Style" offense, so, again, you would think we would occasionally have an NFL-caliber WR. Even the balanced "run oriented" approach doesn't explain it very well. Hell, Georgia Tech, which runs the triple-option, has had 9 WR drafted over that time, at least 5 of which played in the regular NFL season.

There are so many varied quarterbacks, WRs and RBs in the NFL I honestly don’t know what “Pro-Style” means any more.

I've been telling folks NS will be an all time great at Iowa all season. You are correct, though, last night he took a step forward with accuracy on his deep pass and mobility in the pocket. At times he looked Ben Roethlisberger-ish.

I guess you havent been reading my posts about Nate. He is doing very very good and he will only be going through his progressions, pre-snap reads, and choices even faster and better (except if he gets the KF Sr QB letdown).
 


I'm extremely impressed. His ball security has improved and the deep ball is there. I like that they are running him occasionally. If he learns to scramble for a first down every now and then I think he will be great.
 


Demry Croft is the reason Minny lost Saturday's game. Could/should have very easily been a Gopher victory. We realize that we have a QB issue.

Calling Stanley great is what's wrong with your mediocre program. 55% is not good, much less great.
