It just dawned on me how similar these two teams are. Let’s take a look. (I’m matching up players side by side who they are most comparable, not always position).
PG - Mike G 6’2 (So) / JBo 6’ (So)
(MG better defensively, JBo better offensively)
SG - Marble 6’6 (Sr) / Moss 6’5 (Rs So)
(Similar play styles, Marble a little longer and better on D. Moss slightly more athletic)
F - White 6’8 (Jr) / Cook 6’9 (So)
(Both guys love to dunk. Cook better back to the basket and White a little craftier)
F - Basabe 6’7 (Sr) / Wagner 6’7 (Jr)
(Basabe more of an offensive threat, Wagner more athletic and versatile on D)
C - Woody 7’ (So) / Garza 6’11 (Fr)
(Woody more defensive minded while Garza appears to have more of an offensive repertoire)
F - Uthoff 6’9 (Rs So) / Baer 6’7 (Rs Jr)
(Both good shot blockers. Baer probably better defensively and more confident player at this point in their respective careers. JU more skilled)
G - Oglesby 6’5 (Jr) / Ellingson 6’4 (Rs Jr)
(3pt shooters. Underrated defenders)
G - Clemmons 6’2 (So) / Williams 6’5 (Jr)
(Defense and pass first PGs)
After that the player comparisons are a bit of a stretch, but that team went about 10-11 deep as well.
The 13-14 team as you recall got off to the extremely fast start following their overseas trip and burst into the top 10, only to fall apart down the stretch. Either way they were a pretty solid team finishing 22nd in KenPom (5th in adjusted offense).
