Non Conference Schedule

Maybe one of the worst i have seen at Iowa. Even Iowa State wont be great this year. Has to really hurt our chances to get in to the tournament not to mention ticket sales
I really thought we would upgrade our non conference as we got better?

at least we all have something to complain about - I was getting worried after the Euro Domination Tour.

There's absolutely no way to spin it - the schedule is crap - but it won't matter if the Hawks mow it down and win some of the marquee games in it.

It really is a lose lose situation. Apparently there is nothing good or to gain about scheduling all these poor teams. A team doesn't really get any credit in return for beating them as far as a win in the category or a seed, and rightfully so. You take a chance of losing to one of them which is even worse, and will the number of them that Iowa has scheduled, a loss by 1 or 2 is quite possible.

So you don't really get any credit for beating them and get a chance of losing a seed spot or two if you do get into the tournament. Then, the unimaginable could happen which is losing to a couple of them.

Seriously, there is not bright spot in scheduling all of them. Racking up W's against those teams just puts a scarlet letter on your jersey.

Anyone here have season tickets? Is it worth it to see so many weak games and just have a few decent ones to watch once BIG starts? Just curious your opinion. Was disappointed the league can't find a way to balance out the weekend games better, if I remember right we only have one Saturday home?

There are 3 home B1G games on Saturday and at least 1 on Sunday - that's actually the most I can remember in a LONG time.

It has to be harder than we know to schedule RPI 150-250 teams doesn't it? Is there any way they are doing this on purpose?

it HAS to be.. I don't understand why this would continue to be a thing. Ya know how a lot of dumb dumb posters always give the dumbest questions to Jon and Rob to ask the coaches. Like...shit like "Why is the staff so stupid it doesn't utilize Wadley more?" ...

well, this is a real question that I would love to hear an answer to.

My guess (uneducated and possibly uninformed) is that the athletic department wants to schedule as many home games as possible. That means scheduling RPI 250+ teams because they won't ask for a home and home. Isn't that why Colorado is on the schedule at a neutral site?

Just thinking out loud .. .. GO HAWKS!!!

THIS! I posted this same proposition in another thread. I'd venture to guess the slightly "better" 150ish teams get their pick of the litter choosing where they get to lose to the big boys. They'd probably rather get beat by a "brand name" school on ESPN than by IA on BTN.

that... actually makes some sense.

I think any team past 150 or so would get paid to go somewhere and not do a home and home. It's not like we play more cupcakes than any other school. It's just that our cupcakes are bigger cupcakes.

One part of this might be that Fran likes to schedule cupcakes so he can get all of his guys opportunities to play early in the year.

I think we need to step back from the ledge a little bit here. It's 6 games. What I like about our non-conference schedule this is we have two true road games, which are great opportunities. As someone else mentioned it is imperative that we see Cincinnati in the Caymans tournament.

A non-conference schedule with @VT, @ ISU and Neutral site games vs Cinci, Colorado, and Wyoming is not horrible.

I also think to a certain extent RPI is being valued less and less by the committee.

Brighten up HN, it's Friday!

well, this DID make me feel better... and I do like BIGGER cupcakes

There is nothing wrong with playing 6 bad teams. Most teams do that and more. You just can't have 6 over 300 teams. It kills you too much. It will cost us at least 1 seed in the tourney by not having those 6 teams be in the mid 200s.

I've had some time to think about it. Yes, the RPI of these bottom dwellers needs to improve - but really - with true roadies to Virginia Tech and ISU - neutrals w/ Colorado, Louisiana, Wyoming or SD and potentially Cinci... that's not that "easy" of schedule. If they can manage to go 3-3 or 4-3 in those, the RPI will be fine.

You're right, what the heck was I looking at ha ha.

More evidence that Barta needs to take a long walk off a short pier. Are you freaking kidding me. I can't defend that patsy schedule to any of my friends. I should hide my face and move out of town and so should Gary Barta. Fran should be livid about that stink hole of a schedule. It's embarrassing quite frankly.
