Hindsight: Bank Dailey Scholarship?

First of all I want to say Dailey is certainly worthy of a scholarship and could certainly be a factor in the coming years. I really like Maishe and I think he brings some things to the table we don't have.

You know the story. Fleming and Hutton transfer. Fran got a late commitment from Maishe.

Now my question is this. Had we banked that scholarship I don't think we take any additional players in this years class so it would likely have gone to Connor this year. However it would have gave Fran the firepower (Connor back to walk on) to be in the Hauser sweepstakes or go after AJ Green, who recently got a Virginia offer. In hindsight would you have banked the scholarship? Again this is not a knock on Maishe more a question of those two players mentioned and a balancing of classes question as well.

Tons of scenarios for sure. After I wrote that I realized people probably would have been pushing for a grad transfer guard this offseason if we had a scholarship.

I'm all for having the players we have, but it would be nice to have a scholarship for Green if he wanted one. Doesn't he play on Patrick's AAU team? I saw they are ranked 3rd in the country.

Same program (Barnstormers), different ages. AJ Geen is 11th grade (along with Weiskamp) and Patrick is 10th grade.

banking ships is a mistake IMO in this day and age of CB. What advantage do you gain besides having an open spot "in case" someone wants to come. I would imagine that even Fran expected someone to transfer out last year. Still a good chance it happens after this season. Plus, I think it's too early to pull the plug on Dailey since he basically played Jok like "freshman" minutes.

The advantage is mostly timing. If you are not going to bank a scholarship following a transfer you are going to be looking for a late bloomer or a diamond in the rough prospect because the scholarship doesn't open up until the spring.

For example Fran can't really recruit Green or Hauser right now without a scholarship available. If someone transfers after the season those guys will be committed elsewhere and he will have to chose from whatever is left if he doesn't want to bank it.

The advantage of banking it is it gives Fran & co time to identify a player and then spend more time recruiting them. He has a pretty good track record in those instances.

Not unusual for a player of Patrick's ability to play up with the 17U team.

I still don't see any advantage to banking a scholarship unless the only option is signing a kid that doesn't deserve one.
