Have not seen any numbers for attendance for Sundays NIT game at Carver. I was at game with my kids and it sure looked completely full to me. Just curious. Thanks for any info in advance.

It was a sellout based on tickets sold but I noticed quite a few empty seats and in really good areas, must have been season tickets holders who purchased the tickets but then decided not to go. With the $5 youth tickets perhaps people were buying extra seats so they wouldn't have people sitting in front or besides them, I've heard of people doing that. From 15-20 rows on up all around the bowl every seat looked about filled.
It was a great crowd, better than the ones they get during the regular season. We were standing about 1/2 the time as the crowd was trying to will the team to win and I had no one sitting behind me telling me to sit down.

Iowa has to figure out how to get that crowd for the regular season, when having that type of crowd is actually beneficial towards the goal of making the NCAA tournament. Everyone wants to complain about everything with this program, from the players to the coach - my biggest issue with any of it is fan support and what the administration is doing to change it. They took a step in the right direction last year with the upgrades and hopefully going into next season with a team with high expectations will help

It would be nice not to have games at 8:00 during the week. Would make it easier for those of us that drive 1.5-2 hours to justify going.

Think you nailed it there. BTN has done great things for the league as far as football - has almost screwed over basketball attendance with the TV times. ISU had a lot of 8 pm tips but 1. they were in the top 25 all year and 2. they have a much bigger population base closer to their arena.

Yep, the 4 oclock start helped. I wouldn't have went if it had started at 6 or 7 since I drove 1.5 hours with kids on a school night.

They built the seating arrangement around what would bring in the most dollars not how to generate the most electric environment. They put all those cushy seats way to close to the court, the bottom bowl should have been benches with a walk way separating the next level and then put all the fancy cushy seats with the cupholders for the big donors to purchase.

I went. You could clearly tell it was a different crowd. There weren't 2000 people leaning on the top rail with 5 mins to go, so they can beat the traffic. Usually with 5 mins to go we need the crowd the most. I wish they would put a wall around the top, and then close off the rail so the sound could stay in Carver and keep the early leaving fans from going to the top.
I live a little over 2 hours away, got home at 10pm even with the 4pm start after sitting in traffic and grabbing a quick fast food meal. So yes, anything later on a work/school night is getting late. I can handle a 6 or 7 tip for a big game and if the kids aren't with. I took them Sunday and we had a great time. I noticed a ton of younger families there. And we all had decent seats too. I have always thought it would be nice to have a few small shuttle carts taking people from the far lots. I noticed several older folks struggling with that long walk to the far away lots. Luckily it was -20 out.

Yeah, there were 2 gray haired couples that bailed with 2 minutes left in regulation in my section. They didn't appreciate my "game is not over" comments as they were walking out.

With all the talk about attendance and such I just wonder what the actual attendance would be if the so called blue hairs stayed home. I don't go to the MBB games because I can't afford both MBB and WBB but from what I've seen at the WBB games is a lot of your so called blue hairs. It gets pretty loud in Carver for no more attendance they get. Practically the entire 4th. quarter everybody stood screaming and yelling! Yes the blue hairs were standing right along with everyone else! They don't sit on their hands and aren't telling everyone to sit down and they don't leave early! So why then is it so different for the MBB games? I guess it comes down to just plain ol passion. Hopefully next season a lot of passionate people buy tickets and fill Carver. The MBB team deserves that. It doesn't take just the student section to go nuts at a game.

Two "ifs" would solve our home attendance problems: (1) students must attend the games (and, don't give me the "they should be close to the court around the floor" Have you seen the Kohl Center student crowd? They sit in precisely, right up to the band, in the same area as our kids do in CHA) (2) Quit starting games at 8:00 pm on weeknights. All of the rest of the chatter about blue hairs, etc. is nonsense. This from a 12 year season ticket holder who rarely misses a game.

The 8:00p.m. start time is a killer. I have an hour and a half both ways and those 8:00 games are bad. Can't imagine anyone driving farther than that getting to those games. BTN needs to figure something out. Playing these games so far apart then they stack them close together. I wish they'd go back to particular days and just stay with it. Heck half the time I don't even know when they are playing.
I live 2 hours away and attend most games. 8 pm games on the weekdays arent my favorite but I am still young. Easy to get over with a victory.

Not sure how I got those seats but I think that's why it was so loud. Bring average fans closer to the court. Really appreciated being able to yell and know my voice could be heard. Lost my voice on Sunday, its still not back. Hope to be talking normal tomorrow. Also stood a lot more than the regular season. Great atmosphere.
