Here's how various AP writers voted Iowa this week

Hansen's is justified, he didn't have them ranked the previous 2 weeks and let's be honest Iowa hasn't really beaten anybody yet. Wilner's is just dumb, he had Iowa ranked 16th 2 weeks ago, dropping them to 21 last week, and now 23rd this week. While I think the schedule has been soft so far I don't see any justification for dropping Iowa 7 spots after 2 blow out wins with 1 over a power 5 conference team.

I like early season polls. They are interesting because voters have teams ranked all over a broad range and how can you argue? There just isn't a lot of data to go on.

Just as interesting is why 3 voters ranked Iowa #8 when the consensus seems to be #13 or #14. Why so high? It would interesting to know what they are thinking.

But you don't get upset either way because you know it's early and eventually every team will get the ranking they deserve at the end of the season. So just sit back and enjoy the ride.

I see nothing unfair about Iowa being ranked #23. ISU may end up being really bad. Ohio rolled the J Hawks which may be as bad or worse than ISU. If the Hawks win 77-0 against NDSU then maybe some will notice. Rising this year will take noticeable wins of which their may or may not be this fall due to the schedule (still think Michigan is way over rated). Climbing because of losses will take time. OK will likely be over Iowa without a 2nd loss. It's the KF and Iowa schedule reputation and the only way is for KF not to have really stubborn dumb losses and to beef the schedule some. Since Iowa has KF until 2063, he'd better change.

All you need to do is get in the playoffs which we would have done last year if we beat MSU. We don't need to beef up the schedule.

#23 is not justified at all. But I'm learning not to care at this point. It's really a "just keeping winning" situation for the hawks. Sounds cliche but its true. If hawks win the games they are supposed to, they go to the BIG Title Game again and in no way do the AP pollers have anything to do with that

So if you didn't have Iowa ranked in the preseason, like a few of the voters did, then ranking them #23 after wins over Miami Oh and Iowa State is completely justified. It's not like they knocked off LSU like Wisconsin did (who many did not have ranked).

If you remember, several things had to happen for Iowa to get in. It was also an issue in the first Orange Bowl game.

It is a reputation that Iowa has earned. Others have also earned it but it doesn't stick. The Rose Bowl last year didn't help. The Big Ten Championship Game didn't hurt but the Rose did.

KF also needs to earn style points. I am sure that ISU will be beaten worse that what they were by Iowa this year in score.

Wisky has played LSU and Bama the last 2 years. It's a huge risk. Not saying they have to do that, but it is a reputation and will stick until things change. Everyone wants to gripe about Cowherd, Leman and others, but there is a reason why they all do it. They are not all going to be Iowa fans. One doesn't have to be an Iowa hater to do a drive by and think the schedule is puffy. Iowa has also earned a reputation over the years of falling flat when they shouldn't or did well the year before.

Leman wasn't making fun of the schedule he was making fun of our offense only having 3 plays.

People act like Iowa's the only team that hasn't played anyone. What about Michigan? Hell, USC sucks right now, so technically Alabama hasn't played anyone.

IMO what it comes down to is Iowa doesn't have the * like most winning teams and it makes a lot of these talking heads mad. It's like dirt track racing. The big shots have a 35,000.00 dollar engine and along comes a nobody and kicks their butt with a 10,000.00 dollar engine and boy do they get PI$$ED. The big shots don't care that you worked hard to set your car up correctly all they see is the dollars. Same thing in football. It's * or you're dog crap!

Not really, this is all about what Iowa has done to deserve it rankings or lack of rankings. If someone did not have Iowa ranked in the preseason then a #23 is completely justified. You want to talk about Michigan's rank then go to their boards.

Not having Iowa preseasonally ranked (a team returning a core of starters that went 12-2 last year) is stupid and again, NOT justified. Like I said though, it doesn't matter and i'm trying to stop carring about the AP voters because they don't matter in the grand scheme of things

It's not like 1 writer determines the ranks. On the national level I could see some bias against Iowa after they got throttled in the Rose Bowl.

You are right in that this is not worth getting worked up over. Iowa can take care of their own destination on the field of play. This poll doesn't mean as much as it used to.

Several things had to happen in your mind. In reality, an undefeated Big Ten Champ will never be left out of the playoffs. Also, Iowa will likely not get in unless undefeated although it could have happened in 1985 and maybe 2002.

I'm not throttled up. Just interesting seeing the wide range, and how some of the teams were ranked around Iowa.

With 1 loss. In some years, yes and undefeated SEC, B12, Pac 10, and ACC (Fl State) could pose a problem to a team like Iowa w/o respect.. An undefeated and 1 loss SEC team could also be a problem.

The simple solution is...beefed up schedule and style points. Just getting by isn't stylish.

Beefing up the schedule is a simple solution for having losses on the schedule.
