UNLV those bums with their cheater teams containing paid off athletes. I wish they would have been found out a few years sooner. Iowa should have beat them anyways.
They are definitely top 10 in the last 28 years(you only 28?). Top is still too early to tell. They need to do something in the BTT and the NCAAs. Then the story will be told.
I like that Jok and OG are doing something. Good timing!
I love this team, but not even close to the '87 team. This team reminds me of Tom Davis' final team(minus the sixth year senior of course). Both teams came in with expectations but still under the radar. Both teams had excellent non-con road victories that grabbed attention early(Kansas, UNC). Both were experienced teams that had timely 3 pt shootings and loved to run.
The '99 team ended up making a Sweet 16 run. Hopefully they will share that in common as well.
This team puts me near death everytime out...so frustrating to watch at times...show some life at the start of games against crap opponents...good lord...
I was in Marine Boot Camp for much of the ending of the 87-88 Teams year..
However I can CLEARLY without Hesitation tell you who my team was since the 87 Team and it was the 92-93 team.. It's not even close for me.. What could have been... That team had some big time potential and could have made serious NOISE..
I also loved the 1996 team (Kingsbury-Woolridge-Murray-Bowen-Glasper-Settles-Millard)
I like this team a lot, they are in my top 5, but they would have to make a crazy run in the next few weeks to crack the top 2-3. There was a couple teams in the early and mid 90's that were really really fun to watch.
I haven't let myself get too emotionally invested this year, just because of the collapse last year, so I'm not sure if they'll rate anywhere in my top-whatever list, but they've started to draw me back quite a bit. The last few games have been super fun. It's fun to have happy times when you give a **** and not a constant kick to the groin.
Having said all that, we're totally going to lose a tournament game on a buzzer beater.
Just some food for thought. This program hasn't won an NCAA tournament game since 2001. Win one game in the big dance and the program will have a total of 2 tournament wins since the turn of the century. They have a chance to get the 2nd best seed the program has had in the last 15 years. This team has the opportunity to continue Fran's quest of turning this program into a yearly tournament participant.
Putting aside whether or not this team is one of your favorites since the 80s, the facts say this team could be at least the 3rd best in the last 15 years and with a win or two in the tournament, one could possibly argue the best. Whether or not that is a good thing is another argument but hey, the program is trending up, why not enjoy it while it's happening? Are you "MAD AGAIN"?
We will see how they end up. I still think a couple of Mr. Davis's 90 teams are better than this version (as mentioned above in this thread). However, if they keep this up they can make a great case for it.
Back on topic, I'd say up to this point this is my 3rd favorite team. Tops goes to the '05-'06 team then the '00-'01 team. Granted I wasn't old enough to comprehend much of the 90's teams, so I'll allow my elders to be the judge for the 80's and 90's.
1. 1980 final 4. The fabulous few. Ronnie Lester, Bobby Hanson
2. 1987 elite 8. Roy Marble. Kevin Gamble, BJ Armstrong
3. 2001 BTT champs. 2nd round NCAA tourney. Reggie evans
4. 1996 Andre Woolridge team
5. 1999 sweet 16
For some reason, no memories from 2006 or 1993. No idea why.
2. 1987 elite 8. Roy Marble, BJ
