Is there any doubt...

Is there absolutely any doubt left in anyone's mind that Norm Parker was the sole reason that Iowa was relevant from 2000-2010? After watching this hot garbage for the past 4 seasons, I don't know how anybody can say that KF is more than an average coach (at best) with a straight face. The guy might be an upstanding citizen and a great face for Iowa football but without NP he has really shown us what his true coaching skills are. Unfortunately, this is what we're stuck with until the fans and donors speak up. I've already informed the university my annual donation will end this year and won't be coming back until we remedy the situation inside Ft. Kinnick (which includes a cash donation, season tickets, and I-club donation). I know a few others are planning to do that soon as well. Please, if you're reading this Bret Bielema, come home to Iowa...we could really use the help!

I wouldn't say NP was the sole reason but certainly a big reason. Credit should also go to Joe Philbin for building incredible OLs in 2001 & 2002. Bret Bielma's recruiting was big too. I believe his last class left after the 2005 season, maybe 2006.

Kirk did a good job putting together that original staff. So credit to him. But you saw the same thing happen to Fry. The good assistants move on because they're wanted by other programs or NFL teams. Good coaches are able to replace good assistants. He hasn't be able to do that.

All great points and credit to KF for putting together a good group of coordinators in 1999. Would still argue that NP's defense was the reason Iowa was as successful as they were -- they never have been an offensive power house, even with good OLs. BUT...great points nonetheless!

There are always players who who end up being way better than anyone would have imagined. Kirk's success in '02 and '03 is mostly due to having an abnormally large number of those players. His success in '04 was due to an abnormally large number of injuries to our running backs. His success in '09 was due to a ridiculous amount of luck (although I do think he had one of the most talented teams in the nation that year). Ferentz was never a good head coach and if it wasn't for guys like Banks, Sanders, Clark, and Gallaway he would have been gone by '04.

Yes I followed Norm when he was at Vanderbilt. He would be involved in a lot of 6 to 3 games. When he came here, I knew we had a good one.

I thought he was just an Perles/Widenhofer by-product......didn't realize how good of a coach he was until he got here.

The other aspect is KF seems to have taken on this mantra of giving the fan base a big middle finger for our expectations that want to see good football. We demand to see the best players play regardless of how long they have been in the program and accountability for on the field results. Not playing someone's kid because his father has a tie to the NFL.

He snickers about the fans and then flushes talented guys down the depth chart never to be heard of again. Keep scribbling notes on that paper in case you cannot remember you got beat 51-14.
