We've got the two best QBs in the West. We've got the best defense in the West. If we can find our running game over the bye week, we've got a real shot.

You can essentially break the rest of this season down into 3 mini seasons. The first is the 2 games before the next bye. The second is the 3 games (NW, Illinois and Minny) right after the bye. And the last is the two home games with Wisky and Nebby to end it.

Let's go get this sucker!

I was waiting for this.. :)

Are we sure someone is looking for our running game over the bye week? We need a lot more consistency offensively to get this done. That being said, I think we can beat everyone I saw play today, if we can put a run together offensively.

As long as we don't get that one official's call that loses the game for us in the first half, we will be fine and won't have to hold any special news conferences.

Nothing worse than a bad call that affects a 17 point nail biter.

I like your optimism but these are some bold statements, pun intended. Nebraska's DL is really good. They held Langford under 4 yards/carry. They don't play for a few months but right now Iowa's OL is no match for them. Their LBs & DBs are at the very least as good as Iowa's. All things considered they played well enough to beat MSU tonight. Nebraska's offense just couldn't get anything against MSU.

Armstrong didn't look good tonight but Iowa's QBs have faced nothing like what he faced tonight. It wasn't that long ago when LSU's D make Rudock look like Armstrong did tonight.

Let's win next week. I really love nebby losing but their comeback was scary, against a very good msu team.

We need vast improvement in a number of areas.

Beat indy, MD, Minny, nw....or it won't matter.

Go Hawks.

Possible - Yes. Realistic - No.

There is a high probability we will lose the next 2. The offensive line with the exception of Scherff is weak/soft and CJ is going to the bench. The defense is decent but not elite - a by product of the schedule.

We have played exactly no one and managed to lose to ISU who should be 0-5 at this point. The first five opponents might be the worst as a collective group we have ever played to start a season and we just got by. The only hope was CJ bringing some much needed big plays to the offense which he did but now he gone.

We almost to Ball State. Look at their opponents.
that would have been the worst loss in college football, season to date, if we lost to Ball State.

yes, Jake rallied us, but Jake was part of the reason we needs to rally.
That game alone is why CJ should be our starter.

Sure the west looks up for grabs, but there is nothing I have seen from iowa to think that they are one of the teams with a chance to grab it. If they overhaul the offense in the bye, then maybe, but it sounds like the main concern is to get checkdown Charlie back in the race to mediocrity.

I look forward to this years Big 10 Championship very much! Iowa has the potential to roll over anyone!

Look, Iowa is NOT a good football team right now because the offense is a tire fire and the LBs are spotty. However, the rest of our side is equally as bad and each team has a glaring weakness. NU has probably the most experienced QB and he seems to be clicking, they have a very good freshman RB who found his stride, but their D is suspect against the pass. UNL's QB is not very good and they play finesse football that is gonna have a hard time winning cold weather games against good defenses. Wisconsin has no QB and their D is a shell of what it was last year. Illinois and Purdue are train wrecks. Minnesota might actually be the best team in the West, but I need to see them play against some decent teams before anointing them and they usually collapse in October and November.

Iowa is decent enough to come out of this thing as the tallest midget. Iowa is also bad enough to finish 2-6. We'll find out a lot about this team on Saturday afternoon.

Game easily could have been 34-9. MSU d-back misses gimme pick six. Gave Huskers life. MSU offense had already signed off for the night. Perfect storm for the late comeback.

Not all that impressed with Nebraska, but Iowa will struggle to beat EVERY TEAM left on the schedule. As we have seen so far, there is no such thing as a sure win for Iowa. We have played some VERY bad teams so far and are lucky not to be 1-4. Lots of improving to do by players and Coaching staff to think this team has a real shot at the title.

Every other team in the West is saying the same thing, though...which is why we have a chance...

Agreed with you up until the "Minnesota" might be the best in the West. If that is the case, then the BIG is actually worse than everyone is saying it is. Not sure what you are basing that on other than a win over Michigan? They were routed by the only team with a pulse that they have played. (TCU) Minnesota finishes with Iowa, OSU, Nebraska, Wisconsin. Title for Minnesota not happening.

It feels like a weak 8-4/7-5 team.......The next couple of weeks will tell us for sure which direction they are headed.

Yeah, good chance for them to go 0-4 in that stretch, but, also a chance for them to go 3-1. The past few years have seen Nebraska melt down at the first sign of adversity, which could happen by the time they play Minnesota. Furthermore, Minnesota has Jerry Kill, who I think is a better coach than Pelini or Anderson, and well, we all know what Kurt is capable of when confronting a good coach who gets aggressive. Minnesota has been so bad for so long that I wouldn't be surprised if they actually made a splash this year, but like Iowa, I think they are capable of beating anyone in the West or losing to anyone in the West (other than Illinois or Purdue).

EDIT - I'd add that if any of Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern, Nebraska or Wisconsin gets into a rhythm and starts hitting on all cylinders and gets some of that luck that is inevitably associated with a good season, that team will win the West.
