If Hawks close this out is Beathard the starter?

To answer the original question, yes, CJB should now be the starter and now is a good time to make a change.

Purdue next week. Then a bye week. CJB would be a veteran by the time Iowa gets to the big 5 game stretch in November.

The way CJ finished this gm up today I dont see why in the world he shouldn't get the start next gm.

Not trying to take anything away from CJB (I really like both QBs and think we can win with either one), but I wonder how this forum would look if Powell catches Jake's pass and gets CJ's intercepted. Certain people would be blaming Powell for ruining CJ's debut and calling for some other WR to get his playing time.

On a side note that I haven't seen brought up, I was stunned to see Powell back in the game/game plan after that interception and kickoff muff. Historically, such things have not been well tolerated (right Jonathan Parker?).

And what has Leshun Daniels done to keep himself off the field?

You seem to be forgetting Powell bobbling CJB's perfectly thrown outside shoulder TD strike from two weeks ago. An elite-level pass. How about we play what if powell didn't shift the ball after stepping out of bounds then? Certain people might have had a little more ammo pointed KF's way last week as CJB would have been 3-3, 80 yards and a TD.

I think it's pretty clear to everyone that Rudock's int was off a perfectly thrown ball. I know that play and Powell's one handed catch have no baring on my decision that Beathard is the clear cut better choice.

I also think beathard looks deep too often but maybe that's just because they were there every time. Even if that ends up being a downside yo CJ, it's still better than what we've been seeing. I like the idea of how our running game looks against a defense that is constantly in fear of all those perfectly thrown deep balls.

I'm not forgetting anything. I still don't think the video was "indisputable" on that play. And it annoyed me greatly that CJ didn't come back in that game or play last week. I'm also not saying one of them is the clear starter. I have concerns that Jake is Stanzi the Senior, with great stats but a fear of making throwing a pick so great he will throw the ball OB or in the dirt, whereas CJB is Stanzi the Junior, who says "5 picks? No problem...I can still win this thing."

My comment was simply regarding the goal-oriented perspective wherein blame is attributed based on where one wishes to ascribe blame. Even the BTN announcers (unintentionally) got in the game, talking about how CJB demonstrated clear command of the offense by checking out of bad pass plays to running plays...exactly the opposite of the in-game announcers ripping on Jake last week for checking into run plays. And yes, I know, the checking isn't the problem...the predictable checking is the problem.

Ultimately, the coaching staff is going to determine our success or failures this year (maybe by how many running plays they call on 3rd and 8). Perhaps the real QB question will come down to which QB can be successful in GD's offense (Jake) and which can be successful despite it (CJ). And maybe the team will be best served by keeping both QBs involved. I like knowing we have a capable backup regardless of who is starting.

Jake was not successful in GD's offense last week, nor was he successful this week. CJB was successful this week, and earned the opportunity to continue that success next week.

He missed a block against Ball state that gave a defender a free blind side shot at Jake.

I think Ferentz recognized he needed to slim the rotation at RB so between the missed block and to be honest, other than his first carry of the year he hasn't been that effective and so he finds himself as the odd man out.

Kirk's comment on the field was inappropriate and classless. He may get to the point he pulls a Woody Hayes and gets himself fired. Problem is he can't look at the data we have ON GAME DAY and come to any other conclusion.

Why would he look at how a kid actually plays in a game to see how he would play in a game, when he can watch him in practice to see how he would play in a game?
