Gilman was solid but far from spectacular. I didn't think it was one of his better performances. I still see him as being a little limited offensively (although he can really horse that single leg in when he's extended) but he rides well, gets out and is tough as hell to score on. And he's just very consistent. still curious if we'll see Clark again this year.
Ramos- I think refs get it right for the most part. Like some people thought he pinned Steiber in the finals last year and I say no way. But how that pin was not called tonight was beyond me. Just terrible. But more concerning than that was I thought Tony looked really really tiny. His body is very shrunken down right now. Morrison is a big, barrel chested 33 lb'er but something is up with Ramos. I saw him afterwards in a tshirt and he looked very small. that worries me, a lot.
Dweiza- most disappointing match of the night. yeah you could say Collica had a stall right but Josh looked gassed and only mildly interested in actually getting out. Expected more from him, very disappointed.
Grothus- Awesome. He goes out to score points and make stuff happen. exact opposite of Kelly and it's no surprise their careers are trending in opposite directions. still a little loose in some positions but he gets better and better each time out. Good for him, and good for the hawks that the hole at 49 is closing rapidly.
DSJ- not his best match ever but Deirenger is tough, really tough. But DSJ is such a gamer. He just always finds away to get it done. Not always pretty, but consistently wins. Hard to complain about that.
Moore- best win of his career. Hope this is a game changer for him. You knew w/ him and Caldwell it was going to come down to one takedown. I'm glad we got it.
Evans- He wrestled a good match. Honestly I kinda felt Perry was just on another level than Evans. That he'd wrestle him close but never really be a great threat to beat him. I was wrong. Evans got out from under him, got Perry very tired and was in a position to score. He should've scored that last takedown. Had plenty of time and was in great position. That would've been a great win.
Brooks- Looked good. I like watching him wrestle. It's nice when you have guys a little dinged up like EL, that you can have a backup like brooks be ready to roll.
Burak- good solid win. Was wrestling an 184 lb'er so wasn't too excited about it. But he's looking good.
Telford- Similar to Ramos, Bobby concerns me. His knee is not right and it's so obvious right now the only way he feels he can win is w/ his shuck, or riding time point, or some sort of stalling call or front headlock. He has no confidence in his shot because of that knee in my opinion. He's still good enough to be an all american but i don't think he can be a finalist like that. Hopefully it will continue to heal.
overall the hawks looked good. Hit a lot of offense and controlled the mat. I'm not a blame the ref kinda guy but the officiating tonight was beyond awful. I don't recall ever seeing officials who were that poor reffing a dual of that magnitude. They sucked. But it was another step in the right direction for the hawks. I think if they continue to make progress like this we could get all the way to 2nd place at nationals!!!
