Can Iowa capitalize in recruiting playing this well?

Obviously, it is a bit early in the season still, but if Iowa can somehow finish in the Top 3 in the Big Ten, do they get some early commits from maybe a guy like Brandon Hutton in the 2015 class, who was on campus for an unofficial visit last weekend?

Or can Iowa surprise and get a player that is still out there for the 2014 Class that has had the wait and see attitude?

What are everyone's thoughts?

Wining and scoring a lot of points cant hurt recruiting... don't the late commit guys generally hit up the top 6-8 programs? It would be great to steal a talented 2014 recruit. I like how fran always wants the hawks running. I would think fast tempo, new practice facility, wining and playing in a top conference should help and iowa needs all the help it can get to recruit kids who want to come to iowa

Not by playing Drake, Abilene Christian, Nebraska-Omaha, Penn and Maryland eastern shore.

If they beat Iowa State, Wisconsin and OSU maybe

There are a lot of fringe top 150 kids out there waiting to see where some of those big fish land, maybe one that has Iowa on his radar doesn't wait.

Honestly they have not accomplished anything yet. Get into the tournament and make some noise and then they get recruits attention.

This is true. However, I think winning games and playing up tempo also helps. I have to believe there are high school kids that watch a Wisconsin game and say "The SEC schools don't even pay incoming recruits enough money to get me to play that style of ball."

Maybe not, but most of these kids are not only players, but also basketball fans and they know who is trending upward and who is rated. It can't hurt.

Not to mention, the SEC title game (football) last night had a higher point total than Wisconsin's win over UVA this week.

I don't get worked up about recruiting. You never know what will make the difference for a kid. You'll drive yourself crazy trying to make predictions.

Just cheer on the Hawks and leave the recruiting to Fran.

Well, I must have missed Iowa being ranked since 2006.

I don't discount what you are saying, but just by being ranked, Iowa earns face time by being in highlights that unranked teams do not.

Obviously, Iowa has work to do, but when you have analysts predicting Top 3 finishes and Iowa "hasn't done anything" it means people think somewhat highly of them and believe they have the potential to do something. The more Iowa gets mentioned, the better for them.

I am not saying Iowa gets some high level recruit because they have done well in the non-con to date, but win at ISU, more people are going to take notice.

I like recruiting, but don't drive myself crazy dwelling on any of it.

As long as the state of Iowa keeps having McDonald's All-American's everything will be fine. Fran will keep them in state...or Freddie

Iowa won't land top recruits from other states, Illinois especially, until they make the NCAA tournament. Making the tournament is really the best thing McCaffery could do to help make his job recruiting easier.

I think recruiting has been fine so far. Uhl will be a good player for Iowa and Ellingson will definitely help improve shooting. I'd be lying if I said I don't expect recruiting to pick up in the next few years, though.
