If the given the choice this season of winning either vs Mich or Neb, I'd take a Neb victory for several reasons. Beating a storied program like Michigan is always special, and we've won like 3 of last 4 now, but beating Neb has more importance to our program today.
Since Neb has beat us in both B1G contests, we NEED to win one to begin actually making this a Rivalry game, not a manufactured rivalry. Michigan will never be a true rivalry although if we own them over along period like we did Penn St, that certainly adds to the respect of the fan bases. Nebraska is our border state and there are lots of Husker fans in western Iowa. Many of their fans are still living off very distant successes from decades ago and they rightfully should be proud of that - it WAS an amazing run. But they look at Iowa as a far inferior program although history in THIS Century says Iowa has had much more success. Nebraska would never admit it. So we need to win NOW.
Iowa and Nebraska are in the same Division for the foreseeable future until we add more teams (please no unless it gets one division to the traditional B1G and the other division all the newbies)
Lastly, there was much talk in the media of not having Iowa vs Nebraska as the Black Friday game every year and the B1G offices pretty much confirmed that they were looking at options. This game has to become appealing NOW. That requires a Hawkeye victory NOW! That Black Friday game has LOTS of eyeballs on it IF it's appealing. There is nothing competing with it.
Finishing the year vs Wisc or MN would be cool, but that would be on Saturday when nearly every other CFB team is playing. Black Friday is bsically just Nebraska vs Iowa.
These are the other games:
SMU vs Houston
East Car vs Marshall
Toledo vs Akron
Miami vs Ball St
Bowling Gr vs Buffalo
Fans are going to watch Iowa vs Nebraska unless it's another yawner (hello 13-7)
The Hawks need to give BTN/B1G a reason to keep Iowa and Nebraska on Black Friday or Wisky will take our place.
