I heard from Barta

Yeah I wasn't doing either of these things:

1. Contradicting myself. Those are Barta's comments, not mine. I only stated how I interpreted them.

2. I never insinuated that he should "blast" KF to a random fan. When GB wants to make a point, he makes it. That's how he ran Alford out of town. I was just stating that it appears (to the disgust of the anti-Ferentz crowd) that Gary still has complete faith in KF. I'm ok with that, as I still think Kirk is still the right guy for Iowa. I'm in the minority, and I know that.

Thanks Drummer for voicing and sharing. I'm guessing you kept your note to a minimum based on his response to you. I commend you in your courage to "out" the AD on a bonehead decision (as well as Barta's subsequent assuming blame), and can only imagine the "restraint" it took for you to hold back a whole quagmire of questions surrounding other decisions the AD is responsible for. So, now that you have GB's personal attention,....;)

Yeah. I have emailed him before, getting what looked like a courtesy response from his staff. (understandably)

I think he responded because he saw the "23 year season ticket holder", "Alum" and the fact that my kid is going there in the fall. I'm no Tavern Hok. ;)

Restraint to be sure...also clever use of the sandwich technique (layer the criticism between two slices of positive).

As for having his ear...that will take a lot more than 4 season tickets and $800 in seat donations every year.

I was just kidding with ya... vis a vis..the potential contradiction of him showing strong leadership, yet still going belly up for Ferentz. We can agree to disagree on that one.

I'd like to see KFz be successful...but I've seen enough to know he isn't about to change any of the things that drive us all crazy. His clay has hardened.

Now GB needs a team that will not repeat these things.

ISU Trophy, 2012 uniform for Purdue, red pon pons.

we can always go back to alternating black/gold colored sections of the stadium.

Painting the endzone for Vets day might have been cool or patches on the jerseys

Hey, look at the bright side of things guys:

1. We played real hard.

2. We finally beat ISU, NW, and Minnesota in the same season!

3. The players are forming everlasting relationships that will last a lifetime.

4. It could be worse, we could be 1-7 and somehow still be ok with the job our coach is doing.

Clearly the red pom-poms were a major factor in the game and the mistake is inexcusable. We just can't continue to make these kind of mistakes over and over again.

Why is everyone so worried about those darn red pom poms? It didn't help Wisky beat Iowa. It didn't turn Kinnick into Camp Randall South. Who cares what they do for marketing ploys, if that's why you're there, you're wasting your money. I guess when all the other things that are wrong are being beaten like a dead horse then you have to complain about something, right?

Big picture.

It's not about the red pom poms...they're the metaphor (as well as a real example)

But as the saying goes, If I have to explain it...

It is a symbol of how checked-out the leaders of this University and program have become. When the obvious is not obvious to the decision makers you have a problem.

I will say if the response from Barta is true I do give him props for admitting the mistake and not pawning it off on someone or something else. Accountability is all we want with the program in general. The leadership needs to come out and acknowledge the obvious mistakes and then demonstrate that they can get things right going forward. The fan base will accept and back them. Hiding and denial will not work.

KF made a number of changes after last season and the team is much better so far. The defense is much improved with new and exciting blitz packages. The offense looked like it was going to be fun earlier in the season but has morphed back into the old, slow broken down play book. Get win number 6 at Purdue and then let it all hang out in the last two games.

...On a positive note, the overall Kinnick atmosphere was very electric. Our fans were engaged and responsive, the music selections and volume were much better than a week ago, etc. The overall energy in the stadium was greatly improved. All hands are on deck to finish strong both competitively and from an event perspective.

If we could just fix the darned music
